My friend, whom I suspect of having Asperger's, paces when he's agitated. It seems to calm him down (though it makes him difficult to talk to and I never know whether to stay still or follow him through the flat).

I got to thinking about it and recognised that I pace a lot too... not so much when I'm distressed, but very often if I can't think of how to phrase something and am searching for a word. I find it easier to think when I'm engaged in the repetitive motion of walking than when I am still.

Does anyone else pace when they're unsettled? Pace when they need to get something straight in their mind?

I pace a lot, dunno why, but it drives everyone crazy when I do it at 3am because I'm wide awake.

I pace when I am excited. I pace when I am anxious. I pace when I am impatiently waiting for something. I pace when I am talking on the phone. I pace when I am obsessing over something. I pace a lot.

I do. When anxious, stressed, thinking. One of my favorite things is pacing while listening to music.

I pace when I am upset about something, stressed, bored, sometimes excited. It has always bugged other people for some reason.

As everyone else said, I pace for just about any reason.

My favorite thing is to find a place outside where there are boards or curbs or something to practice balancing on, and I'll pace on those for a while. Especially if it goes in a loop, or if there are bits I have to jump over.

Oh yeah... I shake alot too. This is considered stimming, right? Once I was waiting in the emergency room for my grandma, and I overheard nurses talking about stimming, then discussing if I would understand the metaphor of a donut shaped cushion my grandma had to sit on... they were afraid I would make her sit on a real donut. They took like 5 minutes explaining the concept to me not believing me when I said I understood... and typed donut in quotes on the paper just in case.

I pace everyday. I pace a lot when I need to think on something. I even talk to myself while I am doing it all.

... lost in my own little world and loving every minute of it. :)
