a little bit of research and I found an asperger's group in my area. I know nothing about it as I haven't talked to anyone yet. Has anyone ever participated in a group like this? I don't need any sort of counseling right now, just a chance to connect with others. Any one have any thoughts on this?

I've gone to an Asperger's support group (I don't know if it's anything like the group you found, though--could be very different or very similar). Everybody was really nice, and it was fairly informal. I got a little bit overloaded by the lights and the amount of prolonged socialization (it was 2 hours long), but I plan to go again.

Sometimes the best way to find out if a group is something you'd like to be part of is to just go once and see what you think (<--at least for me).

Yeah I've been to an aspie social group before. Everyone was really nice and there was a wide variety of aspies ranging from severe to high functioning. I've hung out with these guys and they've become some of my best friends. I can honestly say that without them, I would be friendless. 8O

I just started attending an aspie young adult social skills group. Ehh...there seem to be a disconnect with the group, my first impression. Considering that we're all aspies and we tend to keep to ourselves. They're didnt seem to be any established friendships amongst the members of the group. I only went once, I would just assume if the group had been running a while, the group members would sorta know each other. I didnt get a good feeling from it. But their was a sub facilitor at that time and she acted like we were all 10 yr olds. Then we had the NT peer helpers dominating the group.

But all aspie groups are different and i think its good for any aspie to try meet other aspies.

I am going to my first group today. I am absolutely terrified! I can't form any picture of what to expect, even now my heart is pounding straight out of my chest. But I know that I want to do this, I've been feeling so alone.
