Well, you know what they say: the best way to destroy a troll is to flame it. Otherwise, it regenerates and gets back up to fight again. Or you could just ignore it.

[[DSM]] [[fanboys]] and [[Fangirl|fangirls]] are hard at work on the fifth edition of the [[DSM|Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders]], due to be published some time after 2010. The most [[Your mom|exciting]] announcement of the [[American Psychiatric Association]] so far is the inclusion of '''Internet troll personality disorder''' to the already impressive number of mental disorders.

==Origins==
Trolls have existed from the early days of the [[Internets]] and [[Usenet]]. Before them were the social gadflies, pundits, and class clowns. Regular and fluid social interaction has kept such people in check, preventing the asinine from becoming a crystallized trait of their personality structure. Unfortunately, the anonymity and accessable audience the Internet offers has removed this protection, notably from the [[Inadequacy|inadequate]] cretins who would never dare misbehave in public before.

Here and there, Internet trolling has reached the artistic summit. Indeed, many people take trolling seriously. The concept of '''Internet troll personality disorder''' is not meant to include those who troll as a normal, healthy form of entertainment from time to time; like other [[Personality disorder|personality disorders]], it is restricted to those people whose function in work, education, or relationships has been significantly impaired. People with Internet troll personality disorder understand the world first and sometimes only through trolling; for them, social interaction is trolling; their accomplishments are their trolls. Saddest of all, they are usually not even very good at what they do, despite the endless hours they devote to their hobby.

No current or previous personality disorder sufficiently defines this pitiful mode of living, so [[User:NeantHumain|Néant Humain]] formulated the first criteria for Internet troll personality disorder in [[2004]].

==Research Criteria==
[[User:NeantHumain|Néant Humain]] has pioneered research on the Internet [[troll]]. The fruits of his labor are concise criteria to diagnose Internet trolls accurately for [[Holocaust|research]] and [[Woman|treatment]].

''The Internet Troll Personality Disorder is characterized by attention-seeking and disruptive behavior in anonymous, delocalized places of socializing. It is indicated by the following traits:''

* A tendency to make [[Bad Jokes and Other Delete Nonsense|provocative comments]] to invoke [[Manic episode|emotional responses]] in others
* A lack of connection to the [[Dallas, TX|community]] being trolled; i.e., will leave if desired response is not invoked ("Do not feed the trolls!")
* A [[Depression|dissatisfaction with one's life]] and a cynical attitude towards [[Roomful of monkeys|things in general]]
* A tendency to challenge the rules and authorities of a [[Spaceship Earth|community]]
* A preference to exhibit these behaviors only in places where one's [[Ghostlight|true identity]] is unknown

==Treatment==
Researchers have experimented with everything from sugar pills to [[Caffeine|highly addictive stimulants]] to treat Internet troll personality disorder with no success. The [[Christian|psychodynamics]] of this personality disorder indicated that pervasive social intervention may be the best treatment. Getting the research sample group out of their respective [[Your mom|mothers']] basements was difficult, and removing the hamburger and french fries from their hands and mouths was nearly impossible, but a little sunshine and exercise did these creatures good. After being taught the essentials of hygiene and manners, the trolls were ready for the treatment: [[Woman|women]] who really like to have [[sex]]. Within one week, the severity of the disorder was diminished for every patient, and within three months the patients were all symptom free.

Current research is investigating the possibility of a relapse into disordered personality function if the patient does not get laid. For those pitiful cases who cannot keep a girlfriend, researchers are considering the role [[Prostitute|prostitutes]] may play in treatment.

What little research I have been able to uncover suggests that Narcissitic Trolls actually feed on flaming...(snip)... Ignoring them also does not work, as it is not possible to protect the casual or unsuspecting explorer.

This is exactly my dilema.
