Their mind is connected to yours?

I've gotten this from a lot of people over the years. Usually, it's from people that I really like, and I do feel something but I'm not sure if it;s really that kind of connection. I don't feel like I really know what they're thinking or anything, but they say that they've never felt so connected to anyone before, or that I just *get* them.

Other times, it's like people don't feel connected to me at all. It's an all or nothing thing, people are either very drawn to me because they think I understand them OR they are a little repelled because I seem aloof or just strange, but I feel the same way in either circumstance. I don't really know what I do differently to get such varying reactions, I don't think I do anything.

All the time.

I see right through people.

Because of that, the good people love me. They feel appreciated. The bad people hate me. They can't get anything past me.

I've never heard this before. I rarely feel connected to others, and I suspect it's mutual.

I've never been told that by anyone.

I am exactly the same, OP, I know just what you mean.

People either completely love me or think I'm just plain weird.

I often hear the comment "I have never told that to anyone before" or "There is just something special about you" or "We have a special connection". It always surprises me.

Why does this happen?

My theory is that it's due to my preference to talk about deep stuff rather than surface stuff. My special interest is human beings so I have studied a lot about them/us. I also am not good at knowing good conversation skills hence I tend to err on the side of just listening to others. People aren't used to being listened to. I rarely know what to say so me just saying "uh huh yeah" can make someone feel heard. I am a very open person and don't judge others unless they push one of my buttons, hence I suppose I "allow" others to be themselves. I have always felt "weird" so I try to make others feel accepted too.

Do I feel the same level of intensity with the connection that they do? Rarely. I prefer my own company and close friends that I have had for at least a decade nearly two.

I like this quote by an Aspie, Camilla Connoly in Aspergirls:

“I am eccentric and well-loved, I have a good sense of humor and am a good mimic. But I cannot feel connection with others in a manner that lasts over space and time. Many mistake my one-on-one “intensity” for some kind of special friendship “intimacy”. I operate at a depth most people do not."

Not sure if any of this helped or not.

Me and my girlfriend often think the same things at the same time until one of us says something about it. Even when it's a seemingly random thought about something that happened days ago. I also have that connection with my brother and have with MANY other people in the past.

Yeah, I've had people tell me they really identify strongly with me, like they feel we're really similar, but I don't know what they mean because this is rarely reciprocal. I do get along with these people just fine, to some extent, although two of those who have said this have also been extremely disrespectful of my boundaries.

Yep, this is what I mean. I think we are very similar, I remember replying to something you wrote awhile ago, a theory you had about AS and the way your mind worked, and I totally agreed. We must think in a very similar way.

That quote is also dead on. It is about a lasting connection, over space and time. I can connect to people instantly, while not understanding them on a long-term basis.

This is pretty much me, as well. Apparently, a lot of people think I 'get' them. I honestly don't get people and have never really felt a connection like they describe.

Most of the time, people say this after I blurt out something that's considered rude or harsh. I think what they're identifying with is my honesty.
