A technical question:

How likely is it to get brain injury or anything like that from headbanging?

According to WikiAnswers, it is dangerous:

Intense head-banging at any time can be dangerous in that it can cause whiplash and/or pinched nerves. Any disruption to the electrical flow in the neck can result in problems elsewhere in the body.

Nevertheless, it does say intense head-banging, but it's anyone's guess as to what point it becomes intense. I assume you're referring to headbanging to music, not banging your head against walls in frustration. In that case, you'd probably cause more damage to the wall than to your head.

Actually, I do mean the head-wall headbanging. Didn't specify, sorry.

No worries. :) I'd say it's still dangerous if it's intense and repeated, since the impact between your head and the wall might cause concussion and mild Traumatic Brain Injury (but very unlikely.) We need a medical expert to give an accurate verdict on this.

Put it this way, there are better ways of venting frustration than hitting one's head against a wall.

I think its possible to get a brain injury from headbanging especially if you hit your self in the head hard enough. I know I've knocked myself out plenty of times, drawn blood, had my head split open, probably left permanent damage. I dont know if its like 100% chance you will, I know that its defintely possible.

Interestingly enough, too, some studies show that, if half the brain is damaged, women will tend to be as smart, and men might even be a bit smarter! One article I read spoke about how alzheimers tends to primarily affect the frontal cortex, and the left side, leaving a lot of old memories, etc...
The brain is delicate though, and even a little scar could cause MAJOR damage. so, OF COURSE banging could cause damage. Like I just said, however, that damage could actually make you APPEAR smarter.
