I recently had to come clean about my sensory needs to my mom. I'm one of the proprioceptive input seekers, and one way I deal with it is that I design these lifesized pillow figures (don't really like calling them dolls) with extra long arms that I can wrap around me when I go to sleep, and usually I base them on my favorite comic book, videogames or cartoon characters just for the fun of it.

I'm typing on my PSP and I'm limited, so I'm not trying to spam. But continuing on, when I would make these pillow figures, I always lied about them when my mom catches me making them and told her they were punching bags. I didn't want her to get a misconception like I made these for sexual reasons. One day I told her the truth and I was relieved; She understood and encouraged me to continue doing that.

Continuing on (darn PSP!), the funny thing is that I didn't even know what I was doing until I read about Temple Grandlin and her hug box, and that's what led me to tell my mom. But up until then, I felt a burden keeping it in and then lying to my mom about it. So I concur with Strapples; You gotta do what makes you comfortable, and stifling your needs will only make things worse.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

Autism Speaks will NEVER speak for me

Well, I use old clothes no one uses for stuffing, although I'll start using heavyweight fabric from the fabric shops I get my material from, as an alternative. Anything else is too light because I too seek deep pressure. I know I'm not making much sense here, just thought I'd share..........sorry for the multiple posts but at the time I posted this, I didn't have access to a PC, just the WiFi feature on my PSP and I'm limited as to how long I can make my messages. The browsers on these things are weird.
