So I'm working with a therapist to find out if I have AS. We were talking about how and what I played as a child. She asked me about what role I liked to play when I played house. I thought long and hard and I honestly don't remember ever playing house. Though I had a play kitchen and I remember playing with plastic food. And I remember building forts with couch cushions and blankets. Then I would just sit inside.
I'm kind of shocked that I never played house. What little girl never played house? And I never realized it?
Supposedly one of the characteristics of AS in children is lack of pretend play. Sounds like your therapist was trying to determine if you engaged in pretend play or not.
I'm not a girl so I was never involved with playing house but I can remember a friend had a bunch of plastic soldiers and he'd set them up and have them do battle. That always seemed boring to me.
Another example of pretend play for boys might be pretending a piece of railroad track is an airplane. I can't remember ever doing anything like that. I can remember playing with building blocks and stacking them as high as possible until they fell over or making things like wheels or squares out of Tinker Toys. Did I just date myself?
