I wanted to see what the motive is for most WrongPlanetans (is that the right demonym? )

I am deriving from it the basic, most fundamental human impetuses, according to many sociologists, biologists and anthropologists. I doubt the social acceptance part will be of much concern to people here  but you never know.

None of the above.

I am motivated by learning and discovery. The rest is subordinate to those goals.

I put love - and it's probably true. I don't just mean romantic love. Love creates feelings of warmth, acceptance and belonging.

Survival is necessary in order to pursue those things. So my priorities are not very logical. I am aware of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs but I chose to ignore it on this occasion.

I am motivated to discover information and solve problems.

If I had to choose from the list, I would choose survival as that is the only one from the list that seems to overtake my intrinsic motivations and motivates me to take action. The others can motivate me in certain situations. For example, I can be motivated by my love for my children, but I am not generally motivated by love.

I am not very motivated. It seems most things I do are because I have to. So, I guess I would have to say I am motivated by the needs of others. Therefore, I chose survival.

Mine is passion about life itself; just about being as alive as possible and having the chance to drink in anything, metaphorically speaking.

You're forgetting a few:

  • Achievement
  • Affiliation/acceptance
  • Love/intimacy
  • Social dominance
  • Fame/popularity
  • Knowledge/truth
  • Authenticity/rightness/goodness
  • Adventure/excitement

Most other motivations relate to one of these (for example, the accumulation of wealth can be used as a metric for achievement or a means to social dominance and fame). Sociologists and psychologists normally study the more extravert-oriented motivations and rarely to the more introverted ones (i.e., pursuit of truth or of goodness).

Survival is a basic instinct that is assumed for almost every living organism.

I put "love," though probably it wouldn't be defined as such by most. In part, it's a love for my friends and others close to me, why I do things I do. But partly, it's more abstract.... something akin to what my dad said should be one's primary motivation in life, to leave the world better than you came into it somehow. So perhaps love for the world, particularly in my case for the outcasted and disadvantaged, would be the best way to describe it.
