One trait I come across is eating issues. How does this pertain to AS? People who are NT have foods they dislike so what makes this an AS trait? My food issues are as follows.

1)Tacos/burgers PLAIN JUST meat/cheese!! !

2)I HATE cocunut and rice (even if you say it has rice it in ICK!) (Like rice ceral AKA Fruity Pebbles/rice kirspy etc./Rice cakes)

3. Hate bare oninons LIKE)(chips and Bloomin Onion from Outback)

I could list more but those are some MAIN ones that come to mind. Thanks fellow WP members.

There are some foods which I hate such as tomato ketchup, eggs, mashed potato and most types of fish. I don't know why but I have always hated these. I have grown a bit wider in my tastes the older I've got.

I hate the smell of them and I will not eat anything which I don't like the smell of.

There are very few foods that I dislike and/or won't eat.

I just found out that ketchup is made from tomatoes that have worms in them, seriously. My pest control guy went to a ketchup factory when he was in the 5th grade. I guess they use tomatoes that can't be sold in the store and a lot of them have worms in it. They do cook them to boiling so you wouldn't get sick. I guess it's similar to a hot dog. You never know what's inside.

Sorry - just making your hate for tomatoes even greater. I can't stand tomatoes (texture -YUK) but used to like ketchup.

I also can't stand olives and mushrooms. The texture combined with the taste makes me want to gag!! Cherry tomatoes are EVEN worse than regular. I am ADHD but have sensory issues as well. I am not on the spectrum but still have some characteristics.

I hate olives and mushrooms too. The texture and taste are like super yarking agents.
Fun with sensory issues : )

I love tomatoes. I love them in all forms...ketchup is my least favorite form though, unless it's mixed with hot sauce! LOL I think a lot of people are either like me or my polar opposite...hating them with a passion!

I will only eat onions if they are cooked...I don't like them raw (unless they're in salsa, that's my one exception) or half-cooked.

I'm not a picky eater by any means, but I have certain things I eat a certain way, no exceptions! For example, hamburgers/sandwiches...with lettuce & tomato only. I don't want cheese, or dressing, or anything like that...don't even ask! Drove me crazy when tomatoes were pulled off of menus because of the salmonella scare, because I want *my* tomato. Ok, this borders on obsession. LOL

Other food issues are mostly texture or smell related. I can't stand corned beef hash....looks/smells like dog food, & to me it tastes vile! Love bananas but only if they are not ripe....once they are I won't touch them...that's another example of texture, & it also has to do with taste.

Sensory:

Certain foods aren't eaten because of sensory issues. Or only very few foods are eaten at all.

Routine:

Every meal follows a strict pattern. Every meal can be the same or exact amounts, foods are eaten every time, foods are taken in by a certain routine etc.

Obsessing over foods:

One could obsess over a food and only want to eat it anymore/eat lots of it whenever possible.

Specific eating disorders:

I don't know if people on the spectrum are more likely to have anorexia, binge ED, bulimia and similar than the general population.

That's the ones I know of so far.

I have some issues with eating.

I only eat certain foods of certain brands.

If I can't have these foods, I won't eat or drink anything else instead.

No matter how hungry I get, when I'd try to eat something else, it wouldn't work.

I don't like mixing different tastes and textures. And I prefer soft food that doesn't hurt my mouth.

I can't eat fortune cookies because I hate cracking them open and taking out the paper. It makes this horrible sound and feeling and I just want to put my hands over my ears and go bananas.

I have a limited diet. I tend to eat the same things over and over. In general, I like food plain and I usually opt for food that is bland. At a restaurant, I will order the same thing, the same way, everytime.

Zeldapsychology, I like rice but otherwise share the food issues you listed.

I only dislike food if I don't like the taste of it.

Food issues is something I wish I didn't have. I find many foods to have too much taste so I don't eat those. I have texture issues. Coconut is at the top of that list. People think I'm nuts if I say some foods don't feel right so I simply say that I don't like a certain food and don't give a reason. I basically eat the same thing everyday with small variations at dinner.

Occasionally I get a dinner invitation which I always turn down because I never know what will be served and whether I can eat it or not. It would be a real social disaster to go to someone's home for dinner and not be able to eat what the host prepared. I will go to restaurants as long as I know what kind of place it is in advance. I don't go to fancy restaurants as the more upscale the place is, the more likely it will be that I can't find something to order. Same goes for places that serve California Cuisine.

Eating is not a fun experience for me. :(

I think it might be related to AS.

I didn't quite connect about the food issue, but I know what you mean by reacting to just the word.

I have the same problem with the word "NEEDLE".
I got it from my fear of syringes, but it has since expanded to completely illogical things like
Needle point and Pine Needles.

The rest sounds like the picky eating trait, but that could be normal. Heightened word associating RE: Rice & etc? You're guess is as good as mine.

I do have issues with eating now.

I love plain tacos and burgers as well :-)

I think it is AS related... I love lots of food but simply cannot eat them at times. Anyone have the problem with eating the same thing over and over until your sick of it.

I also have favourite clothes I have worn over and over alot doing a short frame.
