I got into an argument with my cousin, in which he bought up many idiotic points. I called him an idiot and he went on saying that he rather be an idiot than have no social skills like me. He also went on talking about how there must be something wrong with me and that I must be ret*d because I don't go out with friends. He then continued saying that I must be scared of people and just went on and on and I couldn't get a word in and he was so loud that it started to really bother me.

Question:

Would you rather be an idiot than have no social skills?

I'd rather not have social skills. If I were to trade my knowledge for social skills, I think I would come out getting the worse.

Aspies are born different with the desire to melt with the mass
NTs are born in the mass with the desire to appear different

Those who refuse or don't make the effort to understand each other are the idiots.

there is nothing worse in this world than being a stupid idiot. even if i had good social skills, anyone who wasn't also stupid worth half a dime would eventually notice my lack of intelligence and avoid me like the plague.

I think that it seems nice on the outside to watch an idiot just laugh and not give a care about what they are doing. It is very easy to want that freedom from thought. That being said a lot of idiots are just smart enoughto know that they are an idiot and that has to be the worst. I'll use my intellect to mock up a trellis of learned social behaviour around me and hang up new sheets as needed. Idiots can't mock up being smart.

My answer to the OP question is that I choose to continue to lack the socializing that NTs tend to have, but I am not an idiot.

I view anyone's life as a hand of cards (autistic or NT). I have been given an autistic hand of cards. I play the good cards. And as long as I play the good cards, I will be alright.

hm.... how bad of an idiot? Just kidding. Seriously, that's too hard to choose between my reasoning and my personality. People need both intelligence and social skill, and an extreme lack of either is distressing.

And that is why this world needs both we with autism, and those that are NTs. It takes both to make the world function and progress.

Thank you SuperApsie---I appreciate your liking my post.

Sometimes I would gladly trade my intelligence for social skills, but then I think about the consequences... Social skills can be learned. You just need to get over the social anxiety.

I don't have social anxiety. I'm still socially impaired.

Yeah, when it's based on neurology, it's harder to crack that code. I'm a little both.

Seems to me your cousin is an idiot lacking social skills. You win on both counts.
