Anybody have trouble taking names that consist of 2 or more words apart? I wonder if it's due to AS?

Take for example the name of an area: 'upthehill'.

I don't notice that it consist of the words 'up+the+hill'. I didn't notice until recently. If there are 2 or more words fused together to a term, I don't realise it until it suddenly clicks with me someday.

Yeah. I have trouble with when and when not to evaluate the structure as a whole or as parts.

I never USED to have that problem, but I do a LITTLE now. Still, the skill you are talking about is used in German a LOT! They join words, and the hearer may have to seperate them. SURE, words like Fernkopier get adopted into the language, and Germans figure "FAX", but the word is STILL "far/distance/remote copier". Likewise FAX is short for facsimile(latin is make similar FAC SIMILE). I bet you do this stuff more than you know and, like I do, simply look at upthehill and figure it is a new word.
