I don't hum, but both of my sons do, constantly. I've heard many others with ASDs talk about humming, so I was wondering how common is it?

I don't hum, I actually sing (words and all), almost constantly.

I don't hum, but like to growl  so I can do it very rarely, when there's no one at home.

My kids hum the most when they're eating. The dinner table at our house is really noisy!

I sing a lot when I'm stressed. (only at home) I also repeat a lot of words over, and over, especially silly ones that I make up. I guess it serves the same purpose as humming as far as sensory input?

I don't hum often, but I do hum.

Sometimes it's a song, sometimes it's just random notes (like three or four notes, in a very non-musical way).

Sometimes it's just one note, especially if I have a drone to harmonize with...I like when there's a constant drone like a vacuum cleaner or an engine, I'll give it a harmony note, hold it, and slowly shift it slightly down and back up (the word for this escapes me at the moment).

When I hum it's usually just one note. I usually do it when bored, overloaded, or anxious (like yesterday when my mom left my cell phone in the laundry room, and some stranger was calling me saying it was there, and at first neither of us understood what was going on, so I hung up and realized that it was my phone number, then called back, and it was hard to understand what we were saying which is why she thought it was a wrong number the first time calling me).

No, but I do talk to myself (not audibly, though). I have social anxiety, so that's probably why I don't hum: I don't like to call attention to myself.

I hum or sing quite often. It is very bad for me if I have a song in my head, which I can not sing out loud due to not being PC (think of things like the Horst Wessel song or 'Auferstanden aus Ruinen').
