how does dx referral work? advice urgently needed!
a while i posted following here a meeting with a shrink to see about referring me to a diagnostician- 'stupid shrink says i dont have a/s', or something.
i recently saw the report he wrote on me, and was alarmed (!) to find that only one statement in it was true. though i realise that a report is not going to be verbatim, he strayed miles from the truth and even made up some answers.
eg- he says- 'she has never had a relationship'.
well- he never saked me, and i certainly have done.
other things are borderline made up- he asked me about my musical tastes,a nd whther i have an ipod. i mainly listen to the radio, and cant afford an ipod anywa, so am more than happy with a walkman.
he said 'she buys records and casettes'. i ahve not bought a tape since the last cenbtury, and have bought about ten records in this century- he did not ask me this- just made it up.
please dont think im being petty- he is supposed to make a diagnosis of me (to refer me for testing) based on a nuanced understanding of what i tell him.
therefore, if he cant recount accuratly what i have said, he is unable to do this (and cant do his job either, one might add). the entire report is pretty wrong, and in many cases utterly untrue- this is worrying!
i have found out- via pals (the patient advocacy liason service)- that i have been placed on the waiting list for dx at the maudsley (big psyciatric hospital in london); SO- does anyone know how the dx thing works??
going on the waiting list now was at my insistance- since the waiting lists are about 6-12 months long, i may as well get on it ASAP, while this clinic is still dithering about me. i am supposed to have another session there to decide whether they agree to keep me on the list, or withdraw me (my idea, rather than wait until after a second or third session to join the que!).
will the maudsley recieve a copy of his statement? if so- would it be worth challenging it, or sending in something, either myself, or via pals, or asking to see a second shrink??
i am extremly wary of this. some time ago i was referred to the tavistock (another big shrink place). they did not contact me for several months- each time i called to ask for an update i was told the case was being reviewed on friday, id hear midweek. this went on for 6 months until the secretary finally admitted my casefile had been lost behind a cabinet. even so, another 5 weeks after that i had STILL had no appointment, and finally wrote a letter. the report the shrink wrote on me when i was seen painted me as a troublemaker; she said id complined unreasonably about not having an appointment when i wanted one- even though it was only a few days between case review and the sending out of the appointment letter.
she had not been told that they had messed me-and my shrink- about for over 7 months- and so all her report goes on my file forever!
so---does anyone know anything about the maudsley? and how appointments there are made? do i need to think about writing something to rebut
this statement?
thanks!
