I don't want to know, because I don't wish to be like the people who bullied me the most as a child and a teen.

All the NT's I know are fashionistas, sports addicts or offensive speaking people (say the 'r' word a lot). So I don't want to know.

That's like asking us what it feels like to be autistic. I mean, how would I know? I've never been anything else!

There are more things we have in common with NTs than not, though; so all those would be the same.

I've studied Psychology and Sociology since I was eight years old trying to figure that out. From what I can understand from observation and study alone, these people seem overly emotional, illogical people who are easily manipulated through those emotions and are fiercely egotistic regarding those flaws (denying that they have flaws like that). They have similar patterns to special interests, but they pick things that seem inane and let their emotions run these interests.

From what I know of NTs I'm glad I'm not one. Its nice to have me and my Aspie husband and two Aspie kids, who are highly intelligent, to be a part of my life instead of the confusing and strange NTs.

No, when I get drunk I feel drunk and thats different from how I feel when I'm not drunk.
If you could define in your opinion how it feels for you to be Autistic I could probably answer your question Jamesy - by contrast. It's probably better if you were able to describe a particular aspect of how you think or how you experience things rather than..everything?

I usually express almost exactly the same sentiments, but I have learned to use the word "society" when in the company of NT's rather than "you" or "these people" as they can be offended by this but less offended when the word "society" is used as they may not be aware that this applies to them as supportive and enthusiastic members of that society. Of course, society is just what "these people" have agreed upon and developed. It is their "brain-child". I think it's insane and that it testifies to the insanity of it's creators. But then, they think I'm weird.

Personally, I think that it is something that really can't be answered, Unless one person has been an NT AND an Aspie which is impossible, I don't think that it can answered properly.

I have also wondered as well but at the same time, I like I'm glad to be an Aspie and I don't want to know what "Normal" are like.

No clue... but I do have an NT sitting next to me and he feels like a 39 year old guy in a smooth black robe, playing a lego bat man game... who is now asking me if my poking him is some kind of aspie experiment (curses! I have been discovered!)... but he has decent muscle tone in his left arm, perhaps in part thanks to his ps3 usage... beyond that he feels part stubbly, part smooth, cool and rather pleasant to the touch... I know that is not what you meant, but really, how can anyone answer that? Who knows how it feels to be anyone but the person they are? Certainly not me.

Hmm. I suggest you poke him again. Best to be thorough with these tests.

However, his choice of Lego-Batman shows he has good taste in computer games. Perhaps he can be redeemed and may not need to be liquidated in the coming Aspie revolution. :)

I have no desire to know what it's like to be an NT. I am perfectly happy being autistic. Autism has provided me tremendous motivation to work on projects associated with my special intense interests. I dream about future projects and find great pleasure in planning them. This is a lifestyle I love. I don't want it any other way.

I think that's interesting. So do many of those on the spectrum feel outside of society? I have as well. And I naturally critiqued society, I felt that I could see through a lot of it, which got to the point that it made me feel even more isolated and it was real hard to handle. I had to eventually scrap together a theological interpretation of Christ, him being crucified and Godless, outside the city gates of Jerusalem and God ("Society"...in a way) to be able to deal with it. It's a real long story. I've been told I don't have, or don't have a very good filter, to block out uncomfortable things about the world like most people do, which allows them to focus on the details of their lives. I don't really know how that makes sense to anyone else but being told that helped me a lot. It's why I've been obsessed with ideas of freedom and social justice (fairness). My special interest, I guess.

If I have any talent, this is it.

There is a current Poll thread here about Aspies and being "Counter-Culture" which might be relevant. The majority identified as being counter-culture.

I identify with this greatly.

I think the general ability to ignore the insanity and get on with their lives as largely unthinking cogs in an insane machine is telling of a deficiency in them, not you.
