I've just recently moved away to university. My parents refused to get my any help for any mental distress I've had, whether it was my depression (thankfully gone), my anxiety, or my autism. My school has a counseling center, with psychologists and therapists (the psychologist comes every other week to the school). It seems like it's run well, but naturally as a university counseling center they probably can't do much for my autism. However, I also feel that perhaps I can at least talk to them and look at my options.

Do you think I ought to make an appointment and at least speak with them? Do you think that it's even worth the trouble? If I do, should I state what made me come in? I know I have anxiety, but I don't want my autism ignored because I am sure that my anxiety has a lot to do with my ASD (social anxiety and a fear of being incompetent because often I don't understand what people expect of me). Should I just let them ask me questions? Should I bring up the subject at all, or should I not? Should I ask what options I do have?

Thank you in advance.

Well, it seems to me that if you are going there to get help on things that may be related to your autism then you should bring it up, if only as background for this person. (This is of course assuming that it is a confidential area.)

If you feel like you would like some help and they might be able to help you, you may as well try and talk to them. Worst comes to worst you can just get up and leave, never to see them again. *Shrugs* It shouldn't kill you and it may help.

Just make sure to think through logically any and all advice they give you. They are not the be all and end all, if it does not sound like it will help you and may actually hinder... well, you know you better than anyone.

Good luck.
