Hi, This is my first time on this site. Let me start off that I'm in my teens and for awhile I have had trouble with "people situations". It has not always been as bad as latley.I t has felt like it is getting worse with age.As far as school I was fine until 5th grade then I have been cyber schooled from home had two stints in public schools which ended badley. My Aunt called me a social ret*d.I just want to be left the freak alone.

I have some of the aspergers symptoms and some that arn't. Let me start out with the ones that are aspergers realated: 1.I do this finger thing over my head and close my eyes and make wierd noises, I can only describe it like living in your imagination.2. Anytime I am around a large group of people I start to sweat my skin starts to get real itchy and my knees buckle.( I hate Wal-mart)3. In public I always have my little brother walk ahead of me don't know why just more comfortable.4.Do not like peers or people my age; I get along with older people. I also get stuck on things for long periods of time like one subject such as WW2,Japan,Godzilla,Snakes.I walk with slouched shoulders and was a toe walker till age 8.

For awhile while living with my grandma I tried to be social and please my insulting Aunt. I would try to smile and they always yelled at me to walk tall. I hated it.

Things I can't explain: I get what I call the shakes when I eat or at random moments, They took my blood sugar said it was fine. Sometimes I will try to be social with peers and I feel like I am outside my body. I stutter or say stupid things. I am going to a nueroligist soon at first I didn't think I had it or anything at all just thought I was anti-social but my mom typed my syntoms up and came up with this what do you guys think? Note: I can tell and understand jokes, and can be social with people once I get to know them( usally older than me).But in public I am always a bit uneasy. Sory know this is prob. asked 100 time before.

Share your difficulties with the neurologist without any predetermined labels.

hi there- one of the big pointers in Asperger's is sensory problems- eg do you prefer darkness to noon light? have problems with noise/ hate light touch/ find some tastes and smells revolting?

there are some really good online tests for it- google Asperger's test wrong planet and you'll find them- several have been linked here, but i cant find them right now.

certainly having problems wiht other people is a pointer to Asperger's.

certain movements (often small, repetative ones) - slang- 'stimming'- are also charasteric of it, and some odd things too- eye contact avoidance. inability to follow a group cnversation.
one of the most annoying things is a tendancy to take things literally; when i read this the example given was really exreme, so i though- oh, that doesnt apply to me, therefore i dont have it. without realising that it was only an EXAMPLE! (i took it far too literally).

it is a spectrum disorder- so you can have a lot of some things, and show little or no symptoms of others- i dont stim too badly, but i hate being around other people and noise is like evil catnip to me- just drives me loopy!!

each time i come here i read things which apply to me- a/s is the only thing that has ever made sense to me- all the other crap ive had from shrinks and dr's has been questionable.

a word of caution- there are a lot of aspie myths!; eg- lack empathy, are all very techie; we are not ALL like this- remember- its a spectrum disorder!
good luck- let us know how you get on.

You might have it although Asperger's generally gets better, not worse as you get older. Perhaps you have Social Anxiety? 'shakes' might be anxiety - I shake a lot of the time from anxiety although I have a feeling you mean something slightly different.
The things you've listed as '1' and '4' sound very Aspie to me, although all the other stuff sounds more like anxiety.
Obviously I'm not a doctor and the doctors should be able to help you. Good luck. :)

trewissick - I do not have sensory problems. I don't know how unusual this is.

No one here can tell you whether you have Asperger's Syndrome or not.

In regards to getting worse with age, if this only refers to social symptoms, it is not inconsistent with Asperger's Syndrome to experience more difficulties in this area as one enters into teenage-hood, in part due to the changing demands particularly in the area of social skills and development.

Motor/movement abnormalities are also associated with autistic spectrum disorders in some research and clinical findings, so it's not implausible that 'the shakes' (you describe) could be associated with an autistic spectrum disorder.

I'd say it's highly probable. You certainly have some traits of Asperger's Syndrome. The question is if these traits can be more accurately explained by something else (Social Anxiety Disorder for example). The only real way to tell is to go to someone with experience with Asperger's Syndrome.
