When you were in school, did you hate it when on the intercom they make an announcement indicating that the fire alarm would go off.

My elementary school never warned us there would be a fire alarm and neither did my preschool. I don't think my middle school did either but in high school, sometimes we were warned. I was okay with them, didn't mind them. Took me out of class for a few minutes which was all I cared.

Why is that bad?

I have never found it objectionable, assuming the announcements we are discussing here are to the effect that the alarm is going to go off for a test and that it should be disregarded.

I have sometimes wondered what would happen if, when the alarm is being tested, it should actually be necessary to sound the alarm to indicate a real emergency. I guess the chances of that happening are slim but it could result in people disregarding a real alarm and a potentially large loss of life.

I absolutely hated the fire alarm in school. I work in a courthouse and we have fire drills on occasion, complete with fire alarm. I still hate them. Even worse is when the construction people accidentally set it off when they're working around the wires.

Some fire alarms do make extremely unpleasant noises.

When I was in school, the fire drills were when they tested the alarm system. The teachers knew in advance, but we didn't know until the alarm went off. We did have advance warning of an earthquake drill where we had to get under our desks, but that was it.

In college, there was advance notice, as it was posted all over campus on the day of the fire drill. I had a class on one of those days, and was let out early as the fire drill was scheduled about 15 minutes before class ended. By the time the all clear signal was given, that class would have been over anyway.

Fire alarms still bother me. :( Can't they have a noise that ISN'T horribly high pitched? The only thing worse than being in a fire would be being in a fire and having my ears under assault.

Really? Wow. We don't get advance notice for ours.

My school never made advanced announcements, they just did the fire drills.

Haha, our earthquake drills were uhh... earthquakes. ;)

I used to hate the fire alarm. Too loud, and I never knew if it was real or not which would freak me out.

They never did that. But they did have fire drills.

Too long ago for me to remember a fire drill ... I hated it, standing around in the cold, etc...
