Accomplish something and people will stop underestimating you.

I hate people who stereo type. If any body told me that had something, I would take an interest, ask how it affects them. This way I can interact with them accordingly. Even with NT's this works too. Sometimes when I have to squeeze past I put my arms out so if they step back they feel my hands into their back rather than my feet and they would usually be startled by it. I told the person why I do that and they were more understanding. I hated the "Don't touch me!"
I only told her as I was close to losing my temper at this time and decided I had best speak with them before I do something I regret.

Meh, you should really only be trying to impress yourself, anyway, if you know what I mean. (Not in a conceited way)

Incidentally, this alone impresses other people, sometimes

I don't experience the "under-estimating" you describe. Perhaps you could give an example as to what you're referring to.

I have no doubt that if you start every conversation with "I'm an aspie" or "I'm autistic" people are going to have preconceived notions about you. I doubt it's any different than the person who says "I'm gay" or "I'm Jewish" etc etc. If society has stereotyped the category you use to describe yourself when first meeting a new person, there's a pretty good chance they're going to think of you based on the stereotype in their head.

Simple. NTs take a sampling of others and build a model of that person based on that sampling. This is generally a bad tactic amongst NTs as it gets them into lots of trouble when their models are wrong because they had only a tiny amount of information to go on. It gets worse when the things they sample are social interactions and social intelligence and try to derive a model of a person entirely based on how they interact socially- when we don't do social interactions for reasons different than the ones they
imagine.

You have if you think about it run into such hasty overgeneralizations and mind sets all the time they are everywhere. so and so thinks such and such about so and so because they wore that cheap suit or whateva.

NTs are involved in an endless self presentation game of status. We don't play. They assume this is because we are too dumb to
play and project that model of our intelligence onto everything else.

I feel that is somewhat of an exaggeration. Which is kind of ironic when you think about it.

It's because they don't know about it.

Did you know s**t about autism before you knew you had it? Cause I sure as hell didn't.
