It is cool, I never knew how to do it before. I have changed the background to a rose colour which was recommended at the basic Irlen assessment I had and I made the font larger and the cursor bigger and green.

Anyway it is good to be able to read without having to strain and squint. It still isnt as easy to read as I would like though.

Has anyone changed their background colour or made adjustments to their machine just for them?

What else can you do with the computer to make it easier to read on it? I tried the High contrast but it was too glary and made everything weird.

In windows try rooting around in the "Accessibility Options" in control Panel. theres some useful option toggles in there.

How do you change the display settings? I didn't realise you could change them. Where are the options? I'd like to have a play :)

In control panel,
Display
Appearances.
then Advanced.
For the drop down menu: Item, select Window
Open the drop down box that says colour and choose Other
you can select custom colours for the background. press ok, apply

To apply these colours to the internet background
select Tools
internet options
accessibility
then tick Ignore colours specified by website.
If you also tick Ignore fonts it makes the fonts a little larger

That is what I did anyway .... :)

Thanks! :) I know this probably sounds daft but where's the button for control panel? I can't see it.

On Mac with [Command][+] and [Command][-] you can increase/decrease the font size in FireFox.
I think in Windows it's [Ctrl][+] and [Ctrl][-]. Not sure, if that works with InternetExplorer, too.

Thx Pilot, I can see that works.. allows me to change the font size. I wonder if I can change the font itself...

Starr, go to start menu then control panel is there. Alternatively, you can rightclick the desktop and go into Properties and the correct menu for the Display appears.

For FireFox (assume IE has something similar)
Preferences => Content
There you can set the default font.
=> Advanced (allows several settings for fonts)
You can disable the "Allow pages to choose their own font"
and set a minimum font-size

If you choose to do this, remember where you made this setting, some
sites may look a bit strange if you do so...

if you are in Winblows, look for clear type, or something like that, it is supposed to be easier to read. But as for me, I use Ubuntu Linux, even more control :D

Thanks Cazzie I will look into those programs.

Psmaster, I will investigate the clear type thing.

Another thing I would like to do is change the colour of the scroll bars. They are so pale in colour I have difficulty finding them....
