Ok so i got a question. I went to rehab 111days ago on june 16. I went in for crack and heroin addiction. My heroin use was short term. About 12days of smoking. My crack use significantly longer. I learned alot about addiction how it works etc. So i wanna know are there any other NA people around. Anyone know about NA and asp or wat possible blocks or keys to recovery could be for an aspi

Welcome Letsgethigh,

From the name you chose, it doesn't sound like you are 100% committed to rehab!

I have never had a drug problem myself, but I did have an alcohol problem many years ago. Looking back on this now, I suspect that alcohol became my 'special interest' at the time. Could it be that drugs (getting high) have been your special interest? If so, then you need to find a new special interest - hopefully one that will enhance your life, not destroy it. :)

Thanks for your supportive reply. This user account is old from when i was still using. Drugs most certainly become my SI. I am real obsessed wit them. I still cant stop talking about em even though i'm in recovery. My dad is also an asp and a long term crack addict who still uses. I no longer speak to him though

In that case, it is absolutely essential that you find a new special interest. Is there anything else that you have a mild interest in? Sometimes if you follow up a mild interest (research it, learn more about it, talk about it) it can grow into a special interest. Another option maybe to start researching the effects of drugs on health, that way you would be using your current special interest (drugs) to steer yourself off on a tangent, a new special interest (health).

much luck dont give up on that tought drugs is waaay more bad than you think there are effects that are permanent and never go away again and it also seems aspie have even worse side effects so if you ever think of restarting drugs just think off the fact that you still want to live long enough :)

Hello Letsgethigh. I am very interested in addiction as it relates to AS. I assume you have some kind of list of the classic symptoms of AS. I would be very grateful if you could name one or two symptoms of AS that you do NOT have. I am trying to see if there may be some form of AS which is very distinct from what is is commonly known. Thank you.

Very interesting response. I ain't really that familiar with the exact symptoms. I know i'm a social mis fit and that several professionals have diagnosed me with asp. I have also noticed multiple asp addicts in na meetings even a few came in and outta my rehab during my stay there.

Got a special interest? They are very nearly addictions, only without any of the bad effects. If you could focus on some topic you're fascinated with, maybe you could ride out the leftover habits and change your routine to one that doesn't have any substance abuse in it.

I was a raging addict/alcoholic. I think I went really overboard because it takes me so much to actually FEEL the effects that my poor body didn't have a chance. I had to stop cold turkey. I wasn't eligible for any 'treatment', I didn't have anyone but other people that had done it cold turkey, too and we met in smokey rooms and drank coffee and talked about it and prayed with the hope that something bigger than ourselves was in control.

One day of being sober stacked on another day of being sober like the poker chips they used to give me for every month of the first year, then every year. I got a stack of 24 chips now but I don't hang out at the now smokeless meetings for about 10 years now.

But I am still sober. It is one less problem. Welcome to WP.

Merle

Welcome back.

I've been recovery but it's up to you whether you want to stay clean or not. I think the only reason for me is it was no longer fun and put me in places I didn't want to be.
