i'm all wobbly this morning because yesterday i had my first appointment with the psych doctor and she gave me an rx that i take at night before going to sleep....and when i woke up it's like my eyes don't want to focus or something and i feel sort of weak and wobbly....it sucks...i hope it stops....i don't like this..i could barely get myself out of bed and probably could have slept all day :?

i thought eating would make these feelings go away but they're still there after eating breakfast..

will these side effects where off as I take the med more?

I'm also really kind of worried because the last time I had been prescribed meds by a psych doc was a few years ago and they messed me up a lot and this was really hard for me to do this again....i don't want to be a zombie..

any help or kindness would be appreciated..i'm feeling kind of down about this righ now :(

give it some time first, for body to get used to it,those side effects should wear off,if they dont,go back to doc.

am get the wonky eyes thing, and weak legs with most drugs am start to take or have a big increase of, but the side effects have never lasted apart from with two drugs [normal release tegretol and gabapentin, changing them to slow release helped].

am disagree, not all drugs are bad and rather than messing brain up-they can save people from injury or death in many ways [from head banging,to self injury,to mental health problems,to suicide etc, they can bring on speech-or reverse terminal conditions],nothing is risk free, especially the older meds.
dont take medication if need for them is less than the risk.

Virtually everything I have been on has made me sleepy.

Obviously the medicene isn't going to work for you if it's making you feel this way, it would be in your best interest to see the doctor again and tell him/her the issues you're experiencing as a result of taking this medication so he an adjust it for you.

I mean, if it's causing you discomfort rather than improving the issue you have, it's in your best interest to get it fixed.

It's your choice what to do about it: one choice is to try it out for awhile to see if things get better, another is to discontinue it. If you do decide to stick it out, I would go see a doctor right away to see if it could be a sign of something serious. Just in case, better safe than sorry.

Nuts! What med is it?

I have had bad experiences with most of the psych meds i have tried.
Wellbutrin, for example, made me depressed and angry.
Adderall made me angry and overwhealmed
Ritalin made me feel groggy and overwhealmed...
Prozac made me decide that I would try to work through my depression without meds...

Yeah, people's bodies are all different from each other, and can have very different reactions to drugs. Sometimes switching to a different drug in the same class of drugs can work better, whereas some people find that a whole bunch of drugs in the same class give them bad reactions.

it's called geodon...she said she['s giving it to me as a mood stabilizer and then i think she's going to give me an anti-anxiety pill too.

i only just started not feeling tired and wobbly a few hours ago and it's almost 9pm

i'm going to give it at least the two weeks before my next appt. to decide it's not for me.....i only have taken it once...so hopefully the side effects i'm having will subside...

has anyone out there taken geodon before? i tried working through things without meds and have done pretty well for the past few years since quitting all prescriptions....but some things i feel i need to be helped with meds...at least for a little while until they are worked through with mr.counselor

i wish i hadn't missed you at the block party poopy!! when i finally talked myself into walking in the direction of large crowds of drunken people it was too late and i felt dumb...and i live right around the corner too  sure you were great.

its not a mood stabilizer. its an anti psychotic. SHE gave you the nastiest one their is. WHat you describe is a commmon reaction. Geodon is notorious for causing tardive and dystonia. It
also depletes your store of coq 10. THe stuff is poisin to an autism spectrum brain. If your psych told you its a mood stabilizer lose her she is a liar. THe stuff is liable among other things to leave with severly depressed and with awful congnitve problems.

Try going to a naturopath, they can help with things like this much more effectively witouth toxic effects . Try to get one that does naturopathy/homeopaty/traditional chines medicine/ayurveda and western herbalism.

thank you for terrifying me.

she said she is using it AS a mood stabilizer.....i know it's an anti-psychotic. and all the side-effects you listed are the same for almost every drug out there..

how does it deplete coq 10? just curious....how do you know all this? did your naturopath tell you all this? why is a naturopath not just lying to get my money? is the "natural" nature of their work make them less likely to lie? tell me where you read this, not because i am trying to prove you wrong or anything....i'd just rather read it myself.

but really...thank you for nothing but adding more indecisiveness and confusion in my mind....i wasn't looking for someone to tell me how horrible what i'm taking is.....and it is NOT the worst of it's kind....i'd say out of anti-psychotics....zyprexa would be one of the damn worst....or haldol......i feel bad for people who get prescribed those and i'm glad not to be one of them

and actually....this morning i don't have those same side-effects....at least not as seriously....i just feel mildly groggy. if they get this much less after only the second night that I think it may not be so bad.

i researched it. Because naturopath is one the oldest forms of medicine their is with tons of science to back it up while psychiatry is just legal drug dealing with no science to back it up. My naturopath could just as easily make so much more money in convetional medicine but pratices naturopaty because she likes helping people. Everything she gives me is market rate. ANd the few things that i can get cheaper else where she has no problem with that. Also what she gives me is based on an economy on what will do the most good for the price i would have to pay for it unlike a psychiatrist who will load you up on multiple unnnescary meds.

Because when icam practicioners lie they go to jail. When psychs lie they get rewarded with big bonus from their drugs company reps and protected by the government.

You said you quit meds some time ago and that you improved doesnt that tell you something.

Try taking fish oil. its a natural mood stabilizer that has been proven more effective than lithium or depokate.

Sounds like some pretty nasty stuff to me.

It's not FDA approved for treatment of autism spectrum disorders, is she using you as a guinea pig or something?

actually no i didn't say that I improved without meds. i said that i improved somewhat on my own as much as I could....and that now I want to use something to help me along the rest of the way because i still have issues i haven't been able to work through completely with my counselor....it isn't me giving up by taking prescribed drugs...it's me using a resource to help me through something blocking me...& my psychiatrist has given me my meds for FREE...and whenever i get an actual prescription instead of the free samples...it will cost $5 ..and i do not have insurance  ...she isn't just trying to make money off of me...that is what my last docs did....i know how to spot it and she wouldn't be giving me a large discount on appt. costs if she wanted to get more money out of me..

and i am not taking lithium or depakote-but i do take fish oil and i have been for quite some time....does that tell you something? i'm not saying natural medicines don't work...not at all....but it isn't what i am looking for nor did my initial post say "what should i take othr than this?"

where do you get your info on drugs not being backed up by science? i'm sure plenty get through easy because i know the fda is messed up....but geesh....saying they all aren't back up by science makes you sound like a loony.

again- i am not against homeopath medicine and whathaveyou.......but my post wasn't seeking advice on what to replace my prescribed meds with  ....that is why i am annoyed.

i'm not being treated for asperger's with meds/geodon~! !! i'm being treated for a mood disorder with meds!! that would definitely be bad if a doc was trying to prescribe me meds for an autism spectrum disorder...agreed.

Geodon is a strong antipsychotic used to treat the Schizophrenias...it is prescribed for people who hear voices and suffer delusions. Geodon is never prescribed for Asperger's Syndrome. I worked in a mental hospital for several years and know patients who had to take it.

Give you body time to adjust to it...and the blurry vision and "wobbleness" should subside over time.
