I become rather fatigued with people especially those whose ignorance I find exhausting. I rather associate with completely uneducated individuals because they are unassuming unlike the big headed over opinionated under class and the robotic working class who overwhelm me thus I steer clear of them save clashing. That said I do like from time to time a good midday nap. Hate it when my siesta is attacked or my sensitivities. Can’t stand the people that would say I am lazy, because I bet my bottom dollar that my brain works harder than their body and little finger works harder than their brain. LOL

I use a comfort rag ‘sometimes’ and only at home, one of my former girlfriends hid and threatened to bin it. (Then again she threatened too do a lot of things, some of which were accomplished) However she was quite evil. Another girlfriend loved it and liked watching me run the soft polyester material between my fingers. After all it helps me to think and to relax. It’s that combination thing.

tiredness in someone with aspergers or autism can easily be caused by sensory overloading and processing difficulties, just going out the door and getting to wherever going to do can be one big overload for some, and it will use up energy quickly.
aspergics and autists often have problems with sleeping, whether through lack of melatonin, too active mind or through addiction [eg,computer games,internet...] which keeps them awake at night.
another problem common with ASD-sensitivity to heat, this can keep person awake, feeling sick and not being able to do much apart from breathe/see...
if he is on medication for his ASD [eg,tegretol,risperdal..] or anything else, these can cause tiredness, people on the spectrum can be very sensitive to medications or under sensitive.

TM1, when are you going to the doctor?

I have two grandsons who have recently been diagnosed and so our family is on a steep learning curve. I have found that nightmares seem to be a big part of aspergers. There are many threads on WP about nightmares. At present there is a thread on dreams.

I used to be a remedial teacher. I taught ADDH children and soon realised that they were drained at the end of day because they had to attempt to sit in a classroom for long hours. My grandsons are also drained and one may be ADDH.

I have read on WP that many are exhausted because of sensitivity to light, noise, smells etc. Even a visit to a shopping centre can be overwhelming. As well as that there is close contact with people. Then there is trying to read social cues. No wonder your friend needs to sleep! He has to work so much harder than an NT in any social setting.

I think there must be some chronic learning disability that is so prevalent among NT's that it goes unnoticed by the "experts". Krex

Lots of people with AS complain of mental exhaustion from all the multitasking we have to do (typically socially).

WOW, I guess I am lucky. I can stay up a LONG time, sometimes ****TOO**** long! Last period, for example, I went to sleep only because I noticed the clock earlier. I went to sleep around 3am!

If people are inconsiderate, or I have a lot of social interaction, though, I may feel like going to sleep EARLY!

As for the odd foods, etc... YEP, I've done THAT also. ESPECIALLY when I don't have a choice, am zonked, or when I was younger.

The best job I ever had was as a barman. Socialising with people all the time, I loved it. But whenever I wasn't at work I was exhausted, sleeping all the time.
