I first thought this might be connected to asperger's when my best friend told me his brother (who has asperger's) had coffee once and went off the wall. Now I first ever had coffee this year and it was at work, I was tired and was offered coffee and thought nothing of it. Well it just so happens I get even stranger and more myper than usually and lose the ability to control myself. This was before I knew I had asperger's, is it possible that because certain drugs seem to effect aspies differently that coffee does as well?

P.S. I just found this on some site when I was looking up the difference between "affect" and "effect" I found it very cool,
"Hey, nobody ever said English was logical: just memorize it and get on with your life."
If I had room in my signature I would post it there.

Please post about my coffee theory, I think I might have something.

Yes. I believe that any drug affects people with AS in different ways than it would other people. If we possess real neurological differences, then the effect of drugs would be different for us. Seems pretty obvious to me.

But, everyone's physiology is different. So any psychological effects would be tempered by the unique biological makeup of the individual.

For my own part, caffeine has never done anything extraordinary to me. I drink at least 4 cups of coffee every day, and intermittent cups of tea. I barely notice the effects.
A very mild stimulation, at best. :coffee:

Well then maybe it is due to my friend and I being teenagers at the time. :?

I'm certainly in no possition to protest here. I don't know anyone else who thought they went out of their body, but didn't actualy do it. Coffie did it for me twice. I once had four table spoons of boiled ground, the dark kind. Boy was that night a ride! I felt like my head was being sucked on, like I had two sets of hands, the walls seemed to become transparent and fake like, and I even saw a red horizon against a white one. Very wierd. Some of my brain must have been awake, while other parts were sleeping.

More recently, it made me very paranoid. I drank a medium gingersnap latte from Star bucks. Boy that was a kick. My hands lost their feeling in them, and I thought a demon was trying to suck me into hell. It was hard going to sleep, but I actualy pulled it off easily that time, considering the fear factor. Oh boy...

When it's not powerful, I feel guilt, anxiety, and sadness. I start feeling like a vile failure in irrational ways. Bhold the power of coffie. I know from experiance that it can act like a drug. :coffee: :hic:

Wow that's pretty bad. According to the poll my theory is panning out though.

I don't notice anything different about myself apart from me getting hyper.
What really makes me act stranger is fish. I don't know what it is but it makes my brain overactive and I'm unable to shut it off.

It is the fish oil, stay away from it. Now I don't actually have any problems with fish but some people are allergic to fish oil and I guess it makes sense that it could affect an aspie differently.

Coffee makes me sleeepy..and I take fish oil every day...my mind goes to hell if I don't have my omegas.
However...I do tend to get very angry after eating sushi, so maybe there is something to that.

I don't know why but I imagined your avatar eating sushi and turning into the Hulk. :lmao:

Isn't it normal to become awake, at worst (if a person consumes way to much) anxious and nervous when consuming caffeine?

Coffee makes me very very hyperactive for a while and then gives me the worst headache followed by extreme tiredness.
This means if I drink it I have to be at home on my own, so i dont embarrass myself and can easily get to bed.
Therefore I only drink tea these days, apart from the odd decaff at starbucks

Oh yeah.

I do not drink coffee, but caffeine makes me feel calmer, less hyperactive, a fraction more concentrated (probably because I'm not that active) and I can easily fall asleep.
