I remember Tony Attwood mentioning that many people with AS have (or HAD, as youths) larger-than-average heads. So, I am wondering if people with Aspergers Syndrome might have more well developed frontal lobes (of their brains) than NT's, resulting in a higher forehead, and bigger head. Many researchers seem to think that the frontal lobe (and its connections to other parts of the brain) is the place where our "wiring" is a little different.
I am always looking to see how people with AS are physically different than NT's, because it is difficult to objectify "psychiatric" traits in people. On the other hand, it is easier to measure physical traits.

I think its a myth personally... and I am probably wrong on this but I heard that many of those who have the Fragile X Syndrome I think have that characteristic. Is that true?

As I recall, most autistic kids start out having larger heads, some significantly larger. By adulthood, it balances out such that autistics as a whole average only about 2% more. That is like 1 ounce more brain matter(you have to allow for the skull, etc...).

I'm not sure about the size of the head thing :? but I am almost 100% sure that autism is linked in with either variations or damage to the frontal lobe after taking a cognitive psychology course this semester.

The frontal lobe controls pretty much all the functions which are affected by AS.

OT -- One of my clients (92 y.o. fella) told me today:

"I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy."

Cracked me up!

I seem to recall it relating to damage or underdevelopment of the frontal lobe, not a larger one, but I could be wrong.

Personally, I feel that I have a somewhat high forehead. I had considered combing my hair back since I'm letting it grow out, but the size of my forehead made me rethink that. I'm not sure it's related to AS, though. It's definitely within the norm, even if it's at the high end.

Well, certainly not damage, but a definite difference.
The higher functions of autistics are in excess; lower function is detrimentally affected.
The classic definition of autism by deficiency is due to the obvious results of limited primitive systems. In truth, that is only an unfortunate hindrance on many autistics.
The increased higher functions serve as a truer defining line, so much so that most "autistics" wouldn't even know they are!

For the purposes of this thread, just call me "Switzerland." I am completely neutral.

Unfortunately, the entire subject of biometrics has been, apparently, irrevocably tainted by its misuse during the middle of the last century by German pseudoscientific beliefs associated with the Nazis and their criminal regime. (There is a long historiography of this kind of thing, all of it pseudoscience). No one will be able to talk about it NOW usefully or objectively--they won't be allowed.

What I've discovered, when asking ANY questions about this stuff, is that people of no talent, no ability, no imagination, and no curiosity will invariably self-promote by instantly labeling ANY such discussions with the "Ad Hitlerem" form of pseudorefutation, a variant of the Ad Hominem pseudorefutation. By doing so, these people ingratiate themselves with the majority faction, thereby forestalling criticism of their own otherwise notable deficits. I've seen this attack leveled against anthropologist Milt Wolpoff, among others, and it is both disgraceful and pointless, preventing significant research into a field that remains rife with unanswered questions.

When you attempt to discuss anything that relates to a measurement of physical characteristics and the possible significance of such, you should inevitably expect an attack.

I'm right and I'll be proved right. Just watch.

I've heard people with autism have 5% more brain volume, and mostly people with ADHD have 5% less. So maybe it's true autists have a larger forehead.
