I've seen on the internet tha Asperger's is more commonly found in males than females but can anybody tell me if it's common in homosexuals or not?,
It seems like an odd question but I am a gay male and I don't know of anyone or suspect any other gays to have this syndrome and I feel kind of alone with it,

ANy feedback would be helpful, except for homophobic abuse of course
Thanks :)

Well. Homosexuality is probably not a medical thing more than a persona thing. It all depends on your view.

The thing I read and experience from people I know with things that are either AS or very much like it, is that they aren't heterosexual usually. They are most of the times bisexual. And from reading stuff on the intertubes, it's not uncommon for aspergers to be having different sexual orientation than the majority. It's actually quite common.

Well, I'm a straight female, so there's always exceptions. I don't think AS is more common in any certain type of person. :?

Daniel Tammet, the guy who wrote "Born on a Blue Day: Inside the Extraordinary Mind of an Autistic Savant", who is Asperger and sees the colors of numbers, is gay.

Daniel Tamment has a partner, Neil.

Although Asperger's Syndrome seems more common in males, it is because females have better ways of coping with AS and often go undiagnosed.

I don't understand why you feel alone with it, especially being from the UK and gay. I was referred to WP by one of the gay Aspie members of Thingbox.com (the gay UK website) and he and I are not the only Aspies in the Thingbox community. I'm an active member and have been for a couple years.

Well, the question in the subject heading I found odd. Answer, people with Asperger's are the kind of people who have Asperger's. :) But the actual question, no, not odd. Asking about what you don't know and want to... a sensible thing to do. :)

I believe homosexuality is as common in male Aspies as in male neurotypicals, however I think there are a higher percentage of female transexual, lesbian and tomboy Aspies than would be expected. I hope that makes sense.

There's a ratio of 8 man for 1 woman for AS.
I don't think AS determines your sexual preference, you can have AS and be homosexual, bisexual, heterosexual.
I'm for myself heterosexual.
Having people with any Autism Spectrum Disorder and more likely AS in your family tends to raise the chance that you'll have it.
However, no researches has found the gene that could cause AS.
I know it because my father also have a very small form of AS now. It was more severe when he was a child.

I was (am) a tomboy.

It's very hard for me to relate to what other women do with each other, too. How is it fun to meet up and get a makeover at a cosmetic counter at a department store? More than once? Why is it not important how good your figure is, but very important what kind of shoes you have on? And all they do is "small talk"... completely intangible. There is no other kind of talk unless there is some disaster or trauma to share. At least the talk of men is tangible, where they talk about sports and cars, etc. To me, the socialization of women is completely vacuous. On the other hand, the socialization of men is scary, all that domination, fighting, warring and empire-building.

So I guess, if you look at people who are not very social or don't engage in typical patterns of group social status building and group social competition, and see what kinds of people those are, those kinds of people could be Asperger.

I am gay and have always known (since like 2nd grade) that I was gay.
I didn't get a diagnosis on Asperger's until just last month.
I am not aware of any official study outlining the sexual preference of persons with Asperger's as opposed to the sexual preferences of our NT peers.

I am a sort of unconventional heterosexual female, but when I was younger, I identified alot more with boys...still do in the sense that I get along better with them, but don't quite think of myself as one as much as I did when I was younger...My very good friend is very ASish and he is heterosexual, as in he perefers the company of women, but kinda indentifies with himself as a female. He likes to dress up and he is slightly effeminate, he has a slightly girlish voice and a sort of girlishly slender figure, but at the same time, also rugged and athletic....he has the best of both worlds. He is a very neat person.
