That description matches me to a t! However, I match the NLD criteria otherwise....

Cool! :P

Are you planning on getting evaluated? I know a couple of people have mentioned about getting evaluated soon.

I don't have a psychologist but I think I may get evaluated within the next few months, depending on what could be done for me......
Are there any ways they help you improve your non-verbal skills?

I was told that Semantic Pragmatic Disorder, NLD and Asperger's are the same diagnosis but diagnosed by different professionals - Speech Pathologists, and Psychologists. So the Speech Pathologist might say a child has SPD when they are in fact Asperger's.

Doesn't Semantic Pragmatic Disorder involved disordered/delayed speech though? Kids with NLD have advanced speech. I thought it was something like AS/NLD are very similar, and Semantic Pragmatic Disorder and autism are very similar.

Mine didn't- just evaluated me. Honestly, I doubt a regular psychologist would be very good at teaching compensatory strategies for NLD- depending on the specific issue you wanted to work on, probably an OT (who might work on developing specific skills more directly) or a specialist in learning disorders (who could probably help with strategies) would be better.

i'm assuming this thread isn't enough. has anyone emailed alex or any of the other major wp decision-makers? if they say no, i say we start protest threads. They'll be titled "Yes to NLD having a sticky. No sticky discrimination."

Semantic-Pragmatic Disorder is generally thought to be to Autism as NLD is to Asperger's, i.e., "milder" social deficits and repetitive behaviours, but with the communication difficulties as in autism (semantic problems, and also the pragmatic problems seen in AS).

NLD could be seen as a pragmatic disorder too, as can AS, but semantics should be untouched in both.

These are some personality and intellectual characteristics of Semantic Pragmatic Disorder. Although I can't relate to most of the criteria, these 5 precisely fit my inner being.

Any suggestions on which mod to contact? Or would any of them work? I don't really know any of the mods, although I think it was sinsboldly who stickied the Special Silent Forum.

On the topic of NLD, I had a thought. Simon Baron Cohen has his theory about AS people being high systemisers and NTs having at least an averagish to high empathising score.

Does this mean that people who feel they have NLD are low empathisers and low systemisers? Because that pretty much describes me.

Especially when I was a child. I had low empathy and couldnt understand the other kids in the playground very well. But I have never been attracted to systems and systemising, or maths. In fact I dislike all that stuff.

I think I do have special interests though they are not as intense as some aspies I have met.

I disagree. first of all I'd like non members to be able to browse the thread. want everyone who wants to know about NLD look at the thread, whether a member or not to be able to access the threads. otherwise some people who need the info will miss out.

the sticky should be in General Autism perhaps change the section title as well as the caption underneath it.

The reason I said Members only Discussion is that there are other stickys there and I think it would fit in nicely with them. Anyway, my opinion.

I see your point, but the stickies there seem like more support stickies, as that forum in general seems to be more about support. I see this thread as having largely an informative role for people who don't know about NLD, and also a way for people to post and debate new NLD research, rather than primarily for support. Also, as vivinator mentioned, new people are more likely to visit the General Autism discussion, and so the thread could more effectively educate newbies here than it would in a forum for members-only. Thank you for the suggestion anyway, though.

If this is stickied, I wonder if I could remove the poll, and also rewrite the original post, to make it more appropriate for an introduction to NLD. Anyway, I'm going to contact one of the mods to ask about making it a sticky.

Edit: Yes! 20 votes now! That was my personal goal to reach before contacting a mod, though I was willing to do it at 19.

Personally I would like a sticky in here. I just dont really mind whether it is on this board or another part as I visit pretty much most of the boards. In many ways it would be appropriate here because NLD is a spectrum-related topic.

I agree that the sticky would be more useful in this forum.

If it is stickied, do you think I should change the name to remove the acronym? Like "Nonverbal Learning Disorder sticky"? "Nonverbal Learning Disorder Forum"? "Nonverbal Learning Disorder Information Sticky?" Or even "Nonverbal Learning Disorder Information and Debate"? Maybe that would be a little long! Post suggestions please!

Edit: Yay, again! Three pages!

Edit the second: Boo! One vote for "I don't care." You had to rock the boat, didn't you, mystery person?

Okay, after perusing the site, I think a post in the Wrongplanet forum is the most appropriate way to ask for an NLD sticky:

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postp1898905.html#1898905

Hopefully we will get a mod response soon. If anyone interested in a sticky wants to post in that thread in order to indicate support, that would be great.
