I was just curious to know if anyone in here was involved in volunteering at big brothers big sisters foundation? Will they except people with "mental health issues" as volunteers? whats it like to volunteer? etc...I've thought about volunteering for along time...I want to make an impact on a teen that was like me when I was a little younger that is struggling with mental health or hard times in general. Maybe I can save someone else from misery sort of thing...I don't know...just need some opinions and advice on it... Anyone? comments? anything?

yep i was... heres a whole post i made on about on the ning site... http://autismspeaksnetwork.ning.com/for ... opic:36122 I also posted it on here, but cant find the post for some reason. It explained what happened to me as a big and how they screwed me over. I was a big for almost a year, the first autistic big they knew of also. My little i still talk to, but the other day, she actually be-littled me, shes more high functioning then i am, so it was weird, havent spoken to her since then unfortunely, but im sure ill hear from her before christmas.
also wanted to say, if u want to help younger kids with autism, you should check into volunteering with social groups or at a specialzied childrens hospital or at a group home for children with disabilities, i did all of the above, def a ten times better experience. With my little she called me nonstop, and it was hard, we had a set hours we had to hang out which i didnt mind, but it was defintely confusing. if you do try to do this, best of luck to you, hopefully u have a better time with them then i did, make sure u always call to find out events and stay on top of that. Good luck
