I am so tired of stupid doctors. I have one that I have been seeing since last January. The single paper was all that was sent to her, from my old dr., for my entire lifes back round. My old Dr. thought that everyone had bipolar disorder. I know I do not. I never have any kind of mania(except if I had tooooo much caffeine)
She gave me this broshure on bipolar and some new kind of med. How do I get it through to her that I AM NOT BIPOLAR! I guess its easier to just throw out this lable than to acutally to the acessment for aspergers(which takes a specialist, for adults, and it would take more than 30 mins. ) Shoud I copy my results from the online aspergers test that I take and show them to her?

Is that really the thing to do? Can't you find another doctor?

Yes, MD can be FREAKING IDIOTS! Sorry, under control now. MD also is an acryonym for Mentally Deficient - not a coincidence.

This means, FIRE your doctor. They are disposable and replacable. Get another. Shop around.

thank goodness i havent been to the doctors in awile. one of the last times i saw one was when i had a flipout and was hospitilzed haha/ it was serious business then, but i can remember one of the psychatrists was cpmpletely clueless. like he was talking to everybody like they were deaf..

i think alot of doctors dont know what there doing, you need to go to a doctor that cares, and specializes in aspergers

I agree with LabPet. You have to shop around. You get one doc who wants to slap a label on you? Find another one.

I've gotten a different "diagnonsense" from every psychiatrist I've ever seen. This is why I don't bother with them.

This reminds me of how Scientologists hate psychiatrists, and how L. Ron Hubbard hated shrinks because he was the biggest loony of all. Psychiatrists always get a bad rap with Aspies. If you can stop yourself from telling the doctor how to do his job just for a moment, you might actually learn something.

Although I think L. Ron Hubbard had his issues, you have to keep in mind, Psychiatry in his day and age was rife with abuse.
I am not anti Psychiatry. I do question medicine. I think it's limited and don't think it's perfect and question whether one pill can be a cure-all without any adverse side effects.
Face it, medicine is still in it's dark age, Psychiatry is no different. Do not be seduced by the promise of non existent miracles.

Compared to what? The medicine of the 24th century?

I'd say medicine was in its dark age in heyday of trepanning, during the actual Dark Ages.

Well, one can only hope, when compared to future medicine, lol. 24th century would be a good starting point. We would be lucky if such significant advances were made that quickly.

im sure that everyone here knows more about ASD than the average doctor. You either have AS, suspicion or some kind of personal interest, so your going to be the expert patient. It happens in all areas of medicine; a diabetic will know more about diabetes than the doctor that perscribes the drugs. Their on your side though! There's no harm in taking him your online test result; the numbers might not mean much to him but the questions will give him some idea of how your affected.
However, bipolar without mania? I can't defend that.

I KNEW there was something I liked about you!! ! Just kidding, this is just the latest thing.

The SCARY part is that, at least from what I have seen, the doctors seem to be the smartest BY FAR in the industry.

Have you ever seen the early start trek movies(Yeah, I know you imply you have)? At one time dr mccoy remarks about the current system like IT is the dark ages! Some things done today ARE barbaric.

You can't have bipolar without mania. bipolar without mania is called DEPRESSION!

You need to go shop around because if a doctor is not willing to meet you half way then that doctor is not worth your time or your money. Anyways I was diagnosed bi-polar (no I don't have bi-polar) and the medication really messed me up bad, they sucked all my emotions out of me and that was horrible.

Anyways Nights_Like_These your quite right, doctors do give out bi-polar disorder very easily, for example I was in a mental hospital for trying to kill myself and I saw a doctor for 15 minutes during my entire 2 week stay and he said he has bi-polar. Now here is the kicker they said sorry your gay you can't have a roommate so I was left in my room alone for hours at a time (around 4 hours a day) all by myself with nothing to this made me further depressed, when I was out of my room I was quite happy except for one incident with another patient we got in a big huge verbal fight and I was sent to my room (I thought of it more as a cell myself). Well thirty minutes later a male staff member came in asked on a scale from one to ten how angry I was and like an idiot I told the truth and said a ten, well the next thing I know ten or so people rush at me and restrained me well being scared as hell I bit one of them hard enough to bring blood while the injected something in me without my consent. Well I wouldn't clam down I was angry at being attacked and was trying to get loose with all my might and cussing up one hell of a storm so they tied me down to my bed with leather restraints and left me there for several hours. So yeah it was really messed up because I was a victim circumstance.

Incompetent medics are very common. It may be useful to try and make a judgement call on whether this one is incorrigibly hopeless or not - if so, it makes sense to get another one. If not, then argue with them, present your evidence and refuse to cave in to glib, faulty arguments. It's your life they're screwing with and you are the main authority over that, although many of them come over as if they think the patient is a stupid hypochondriac. If you can find a supportive friend to take with you, that might do wonders - it can be easier to stick up for another person than to stick up for oneself. The night before visiting a doc, I usually feel confident that I'll be able to assert myself fluently, but once I get there, I can feel my self-confidence draining away as I sit around in the waiting room. Sometimes I think I should write down what I want to say (which I could probably do quite well), take the result with me, and if clam up or begin to think they're being unsympathetic, I could just say "look, I'm not feeling very articulate today, so here's a written version of what I'm trying to say to you." Simple rehearsal doesn't seem to help me, I'm a different person in the comfort and privacy of my own home.

Obviously, they believe in the idiotic belief of absolute quantification, and mindless adherence to some idiots ideas.

Of course, they do have one MAJOR problem with that! It says that you basically would have killed them all before they even THOUGHT to ask you the question!

That is the DEFINITION of idiocy! They act on an answer when the answer PROVES they are WRONG!

As for the "you're alone because you are a homosexual", FINALLY!! !! !! Straight people are kept together to prevent such interaction, and for privacy. Based on that, homosexuals SHOULD be kept alone. Of course, that is ALSO a reason to keep them out of the military, since the military tries to use economies of scale, such as communal rooms and boarding.

And if you think you know enough about medicine because the professionals disappoint you, think again! Remember, they're the ones who went to medical school.
