Sorry if this idea has already been done or something, afaik, it hasn't.
I think by now, a lot of us are fed up of Autism Speaks, for one reason or another. This forum has 25,000 members, and on the last poll taken, something like 94% of the people who participated in the poll said they didn't like Autism Speaks.
So, I was thinking, if we were to make a 10 minute video, post it on Youtube, and then all the people here try and spread the word, then, it gets really popular, maybe a TV appearance, we might make a significant difference.
Obviously, it's not that simple, but, has anyone seen the, 'I'm a PC advert'? Maybe something like that, with say, 250 people doing 10 second videos saying something like:
Hi, my name's <name>. <Greatest achievement, i.e family, job, etc.> and I want an end to Autism Speaks.
It's be important to keep under 10 seconds, because, hopefully, a lot of people will want to be in it.
And of course, it's not just that. People who are camera shy can also help. For example, people with Autism who are musicians could give the video editors the music, and then the people good at video editing could all video edit, the people good at art could have their art displayed through the credits, etc.
I think it'd stand for a lot. Autistic people aren't that anti-social, being able to work with people of all different ages, etc., they can speak for their self, they can achieve A LOT, etc.
Another idea would be to do a parody video, with around 20 actors, acting out what the people at Autism Speaks are like(just wanting money) and such. I don't know if that would be a good idea though, because it'd be using similar propaganda that Autism Speaks uses, and would probably not be as effective.
Anyway, I know that this would be quite complicated, so here's what I've come up with on how to organize it:
If there's a parody, there would be 5-10 script writers. They decide themselves what the script is like. If they can't all agree, then they have a vote between them. If they still have problems, then they do a poll here.
Someone would make a Youtube video asking for videos from people with ASDs saying what I said before, and then the 5 video editors can download 20% of them each, then put them altogether so we have 5 video clips, then put them together, then put the music, art, etc. together. Maybe that might be too much work for 5 people, but it depends how popular it is.
IDK if having a director would be a good idea, one of the main things would be showing we can all work together civilized, without the need of a director, but, maybe having a group of 5 would be good.
Depending on how long the actual video is, I figure we could have around 20 pictures. Only one artist is allowed to give one painting in, 'cause we'd want as many people in as possible.
Music wise, maybe 5 people could all group up and sort that out.
I think the main thing right now is whether or not it's going to be a parody or not, so there's a pole.
IDK if this is too ambitious, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Also, for those who can't afford a webcam, you could just give the video editors a picture, and some text to put on top of it.
Also, I think it'd be a good idea to work with;

I know the site owner, so, yeah. He/She would like to help too, so maybe it could go on their Youtube channel or something.
Sorry for the layout of this post, but yeah.

I like the idea of a bunch of clips, so different ideas can get out there.
I'm a little scared to take Autism Speaks on, they might make me sleep with the fishes (mafia reference).

I do like that clips idea, it basically proves that Autism Speaks is wrong! Very good!

Glad to see that site is getting around, too (just gina-ghettoprincess and me have been passing it around before), although you forgot the "h" from the "http" :P

If Autism Speaks wants to make a big deal out of this, then fine.
But I don't see it as a bad thing anyway. It'll pretty much kill them if they do. No one's going to donate to a charity persistently trying to sue the people it claims to be speaking for, and helping.
And thanks, added it now! :P.

Hi, my name is Daniel, and my greatest achievement is that I haven't killed myself yet due to this fudged up autism; I'm too damn selfless to do it, and it's the only thing I want to end.

I'm guessing that my view wouldn't be wanted?

I'm sure Autism Speaks would embrace this view though.

I doubt they'd want me to kill myself, since most of the people who run it probably have an abundance of empathy.

OP: so, only a view that you like will be included? You're then not speaking for people with autism any more than Autism Speaks is.

Well, I guess you could then.
We could have supporters of Autism Speaks, and non-supporters.
But I don't really run it. The point's for everyone with Autism on here to contribute.

I'm sure Autism Speaks would love to have a suicidal Aspie in one of their videos, it supports everything they say.

Well in one of their videos they had a NT mum saying she wanted to get in the car with her autistic daughter and drive off a bridge...

If you want to do that then fine, but people will probably think you're joking anyway -.-.
IDK why you all want to be awkward about this, tbh. In 20 years time you probably wouldn't have been born 'cause of Autism Speaks.

I'm not an "aspie".

I'm not for or against anything, other than letting everyone have their say.

I agree with this... Can someone say something constructive? Am I the only other person who thinks this is a good idea? Or are we all emos on here?
