I have been told that I cannot drink beer because it contains large amounts of rye and that rye effects me like heroine? I have had a few bad episodes where I passed out from a few beers, so maybe it is true. I usually don't remember what I did, but drinking makes me feel more comfortable in certain situations.

Anyone out there with these issues?

Try eating some rye bread. If you don't pass out, it was the alcohol, not the rye.

I don't think it's common to have use large amounts of rye in beer making. I think someone is pulling your leg, or misinformed. Assuming you aren't pulling our leg.

Wait, this is an aspie board, maybe I shouldn't use idioms. :) But I can't quite work out what woul be the literal version of the expression pull someone's leg.

Barley is actually the most common grain in beer making.

it's the hops in beer that gives you the euphoria

heroin does not make you 'pass out' alcohol does, though.

Beer does have gluten in it from the grain it was brewed with. If you have celiac or a gluten intolerance that could be the culprit. I have celiac and can only drink gluten free beer. They are brewed with sorghum and/or rice. The hops is what gives beer its flavor. Bard's Tale is the best gluten free beer.

I am allergic to brewer's yeast so drinking beer will make me very sick.
