I've started to like reading books of characters with Asperger's Syndrome. I've already read "The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time", "Blue Bottle Mystery", "Of Mice and Aliens", "Lisa and The Lacemaker" and "Adam's Alternative Sports Day."
I really liked those books and want to read more, does anyone know of other Aspie novels I can read? :)

This is somewhat esoteric but you can try to find some of the very old Tom Swift books. The character of Tom is 100% asperger related but the original source of the first stories go back to 1910. The best series by the original authors (there were several) go up to around 1954 and then the series is completely different.
Also re-read the original version of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. It has to be the original version as the work has been destroyed in modern reprints.

"Look Me In The Eye" is a good memoir.

"A Dangerous Woman" by Mary McGarry Morris, portrays an Asperger woman in the main character Martha Horgan. I found out today that I wasn't the only one who noticed that. Another book titled, "Housekeeping" by Marilynne Robinson, contains two main characters (Aunt Sylvie and Ruthie) that are Aspies (I haven't noticed anyone else who has brought this to attention yet).

Even though both of these books are fiction, they do a great job at showing how diverse the Aspie population can be.

C.S. Friedman. This Alien Shore. A fascinating SF novel, but the autistic character is a bit of an old-school stereotype. I liked the young woman with the augmented brain better.

Quote:
"The toughest part of TAS is that one of my main characters is an adult autistic. Such people may function well in many areas, but are insensitive to many of subtle emotional signals that accompany human interaction. Any sections from his POV therefore cannot use the kind of information that is an author's stock-in-trade, that is, insightful observation of other characters' mood and motivation."
:P

I liked the dog in the nighttime.

Cool, thanks! :)

Wow, I didn't know there were so many Aspie books. :P

Agreed with the frankenstien thing. I had to read it in grade 11, and I found that......... wait, i don't want to give the whole thing away............ Just be aware that Shelley's version of franekstien is completely different from the spin on it you've probably heard of quite commonly. Although the character is not truly under the spectrum, there a lot of similarities.

Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson has a hero (or two) that shine a humourous (positive) light on someone being a slight bit out of the real world.

I'm going to bump this.

Here's two books I've recently found with an autistic character:

"Eye Contact" by Cammie McGovern
"By The Light Of The Moon" by Dean Koontz

I'm kind of obsessed with reading books with autistic or aspie characters now in them. If anyone has anymore they would like to add (any autism spectrum character, not limited to AS) that would be greaaaat.

Well if you say the whole spectrum, The Speed of Dark deals with the possibility of an Autism 'Cure' in a future society. The main protagionist is HFA, and works in some biology job.

Me too. They're the only kind of books I read, apart from comic ones.

I'm reading "Speed of Dark" by Elizabeth Moon. I like it a lot, actually.
