Thought it would be a good idea where we could tell stories about our Asperger's.

Basically, if you've got a memorable story about what your Asperger's caused you to do, post it here. :)

One memorable story was when I was camping as a little child. I really needed the toilet. My dad asked "Are you bursting?" I took it literally and said "I'm not a balloon."
Also, one time I played Archery, one of the staff said "That thing's got your name on it" and I searched the bow for my name.

When I was younger, I used to have really bad pollen allergies/hayfever. One day, I told my dad that my allergies were acting up again, and he said, "Oh honey, are you feeling under the weather?" I felt confused, because I thought, 'If the weather is in the sky, then aren't we always under it?'

One of my favorite foods used to be oatmeal. My parents would say, "Oatmeal is good for you. It sticks to your ribs." I thought that, after swallowing the oatmeal, it literally glopped onto my ribs instead of going directly into my stomach.

When I was really hyper, my parents would always tell me to settle down...
I would always say "but I'm not settled up..."

haha! I thought the same thing about oatmeal! I stopped eating it for awhile after someone told me it sticks to your ribs.

Aspie or not... I love this thread because I can relate to some extent... though I always thought kids did that sometimes.

My father had a strange expression to say "don't touch that", he said "put your hand on your butt and imitate a plane". The first he said that, I did what he told me to do... But once I'm pretty lucky and my parents always explained to me what those phrases really meant when I didn't undertsand them, sometimes I could understand them because of what had been said before.

This happened today, I saw a film called "Rat Racing." The plot was about people racing to get $2,000,000. But at first I kinda took the title literally and imagined it being about rats racing.

When I was almost 8 years old our baseball team won our local league championship so we got to go see the Cincinnati Reds play the Oakland A's at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati during the 1972 World Series. All of the other kids on the team said the great souvenir to get at the Riverfront giftshop was "The Bat Bank." Well, when I was in the shop I searched and searched all over the place for that bank, but I couldn't find it anyplace. Finally I asked the clerk behind the counter where The Bat Bank was and he pointed it out next to where I was standing. "Oh," I said, "that's it." It was a bank surrounded by miniature baseball bats representing all the teams of the National and American Leagues. I was looking for a bank that looked like the flying mammal (bat) instead. Since I liked caves, I never made the connection to the baseball bat even though I was at a baseball game.

I would have thought that too.

When my mum said 'I'll wash your mouth out with soap' I actually thought she would.

The Reds? World Series? What?! 8O That's impossible!

I love the Reds, but that will never happen again... ;)

Sorry for not being on topic...
