:?: You know all of those merchandise gimmicks where they come out with stupid, apocryphal sayings like, "my governor can beat up your govorner" or something along those lines??? Well, I was thinking about this the other day, and I attempted to picture how I would react driving along the roads when all of a sudden I would see a bumper sticker that says "My autistic/asperger child can beat up your child".

Questions to think about:
How would you react to someting like this? Is it appropriate or innapropriate? Is this quote offensive? 8O Is this quote hilarious? Come, let us discuss.

I honestly fail to see where there is any humor in it. It'd only propagate a violent, agressive stereotype already place on individuals with Asperger's Syndrome. It would do more damage to better awareness that we're aren't aggressive, violent people. But if you want to add to the myths the media has already made non-autistics believe, that's doing nothing to help yourself or others. It's by far inappropriate and offensive in my opinion.

I don't think it is suitable to have as a sticker. It is not humourous and it just stoops to the NT level of what constitues humour.

The "my governor can beat up your govorner" is a joke from the perspective of the cars as though they have a mind and is no doubt based on the 'My daddy is bigger than your Daddy' saying kids say. The govenor sticker is not meant to be offensive.
The Autism/Asperger on sounds both offensive and also makes the assumption that auties and Aspies are weak defenceless vitims, so to be beaten by them is a sign of weakness.

It has the negative sence of EVEN a weedy person with AS or autism.
EVEN means it is such a surprise that this weak type can achieve.

That is just the way I see it though.

It reminds me of when a snobby aunt once said 'I'm not a snob, I EVEN speak to the dustbin men'.

Well, I certainly don't find it offensive but largely inaccurate. AS individuals are not, by nature, violent. I do see the point, however.

"My child can perseverate longer than your child."

"My child doesn't acknowledge your child."

"My child can maintain a monologue on train schedules (insert interest) longer than your child could possibly maintain interest."

False. I haven't got a child.

I do have cats though. "My cat can beat up your cat!"
:P

Don't insult the mentally ret*d, Sean. That's really an insult comparing them to teeny bops with cell phones glued to their ears... NOBODY'S as bad as that!

Okay, point taken. How about "PUT DOWN THE CELL PHONE OR THE CRACK PIPE, WHICHEVER ONE YOU ARE ON!" instead?

It was tough not to select the humorous answer in this poll, because it was a good one, still I had to select my correct answer (No). So many Aspie kids are already being bullied, this seems like an open invitation for someone to try them in a physical fight. And I agree with Mish, that right at the moment we don't need any more bad press.

Yeah, haha this is a good one and also it is an OH-SO-TRUE statement. You couldn't go wrong with this one. Because the interest rate for an NT child would be like -2% or less.

I misread the topic title as Aspie MECH when I first opened it :|

Although that WOULD be cool. *CLUNG!* "TEN FOUR. FIRING MISSILES!!"

Hehe, strangely enough, I think the cell phone for such types is even more physically and psychologically addicting than cocaine.

I'd like to nominate the following:

"My child is unconcerned with their sociological rank in comparison with your child"

"Your child can probably beat up my child. Have fun supporting a violent, unemployed 30-year-old"

"My child is traumatized by my constant bragging about them"

"My honor role student can outperform your honor role student, otherwise he's not getting dinner"

"My honor role student will eventually crack under the immense pressure I put on them to perform"
