So random, but:

How important is your Asperger's in defining you?

I want to see what others say. The fact that I'm an Aspie is very important to me, probably because I'm in college and trying to improve my social skills. How about you?

Very, unfortunately. It explains why I'm sat on my own at ten to midnight new year's eve replying to a person I've never met in order to kill time.

Very much the same.

And iirc Diagnosis requirements says it seriously affects your social or proffesional life, so thats pretty defining.

very important. as an older AS dx'ed late...it answers just so much.
it also explains why i was tucked up in bed at 8.30pm last night without any interest in the social or celebratory aspect of heralding in the New Year.

routine comes first....

It's very important to me right now, and it defines me in a positive way. Even though there are things I can't do, it's good to know where my weaknesses are so that I can concentrate on my strengths.

I've always felt different and have struggled against it for a long time. Now I'm relaxing into myself more and enjoying my uniqueness. A lot of people never get to feel that, and I feel fortunate to have gotten this far.

Asperger's is a very important thing to me. It is a big part of who I am. It explains my narrow interests that give me so much pleasure. It explains why I am so awkward socializing. It explains to me why I, along with those around me, perceive me to be so eccentric.

I am actually proud to be an Aspie and I find no shame in having it. Knowing that I have Asperger's has allowed me to study this syndrome and come to terms with my abilities and limitations. Now, with my diagnosis of Asperger's, I am receiving some coaching skills from a reputable master social worker in handling situations with my family better.

It's very important to me because not only can I now understand my idiosyncrasies in a whole new light, but also I can accept other people's odd reactions to my way of thinking and my way of doing things. I feel anchored, actually, and that to me spells "relief."
