Yeah, I got my first skateboard in 1979 and have done various types of skateboarding throughout my life. I was probably "like you" when I was your age. It's not really a lifestyle for me now though, just something I enjoy doing because I can. Like Barack Obama playing basketball, I skateboard. As an adult skater, I've met, skated with and brefriended some of my childhood skate heros, although I won't mention any names because I'm keeping my AS private.

I skate. Parks and mall car parks are too busy for me; I just roll along footpaths. Ollie is the only trick I bothered to learn enough so that I can pull it when needed (over gutters). I just love rolling down the paths.

I also ride a BMX now and again; same jazz as the skateboard in that the only trick I bothered to learn is the Bunny Hop (the same gutters).

My brother in law is a professional skateboarder.

Me, personally, I tried doing the inline skating thing with tricks once. Even though I am really good at inline and ice skating it didn't go so well

Awesome thread. Good to see the lot of you here. I always felt kinda the odd one out, and spent the first few years riding alone. I still do ride alone alot, but as i progressed i made a few mates through it. Nowadays i notice that this sport can attract some Aspies. Even some the guys i ride with exhibit similiar characteristics. I'm also fortunately accepted for who i am within this scene. Hope you don't mind the vid. I know . . . I am a little narcistic and self-obssessed, hope its not too obvious in the vid. :( Enjoy. :?

no prob man glad you like it man also your vid rocks you way better bmxer then me man i can't go off full ramps can bunny hop, cat walk, whellie spin and handle flip that's about it man.i agree it is so hard enough to find aspergers kids who even like sports but it is nearly imposible to find one that do something as extreme /hardcore/rebellious as skateboading or bmx 1 in 1 million dianoised will develop a love for skateboading like .5 will actully hangout at parks with other skaters / bmxers and have people in they posse i knew 1 dude who skateboads and i girl who bmx bikes both aspies did all by them selves the two of us are the only 2 skaters/bmxers who have aspergers and hang with a skate/bmx group i have a skater bmxer freind and skater disco king freind who have pdd and hang with us in the hood but other then that it is not typical to me.

When i lived in Melbourne i used to rollerblade every day until i got a computer. A big group of bladers would meet at the skatepark in the city, then choose somewhere to skate, we went all over melbourne on the trains, it was fun. Now i live on the Gold Coast and there isn't as many bladers here, i don't skate much anymore.

A BMX was the bike I learned to ride on. I used to ride mainly by myself and didn't hang out with BMX groups but they vanished shortly afterwards when BMXs went out of fashion and mountain bikes were what all kids were riding. I have owned several BMXs over the years and still ride them today but I'm not good at tricks.

I've encountered many AS kids who have BMXs. Some of them didn't learn to ride until they were 9 or 10 years old and considered a BMX easier to ride than a mountain bike.

I ride a DJ/Street mtb but been off it for about a month for various reasons. I cant do any tricks...

Im planning to build a tabletop or 2 hopefully this spring. I had this obsession with building a pump track last year, but had trouble finding a good spot.

I used to ride a longboard. Never did any halfpipes or anything like that , I was a street skater, and I've skated in snow more than few times.

Tomboy here. I used to ride BMX, skate, rollerblade, etc. Still have them all, but I haven't ridden as I did when I was a teen for a while now. You mellow when you get older as it hurts more then you mess-up. :D Fellow in the neighborhood used to BMX too (air conditioning was his job so he had welding equipt) he welded us rails, ramps all sorts of things and kept them for us in his own backyard. Enjoy it while you still can!!
