Do you have trouble looking at yourself, namely, your face, in the mirror.?

I have trouble looking at myself in the mirror and have had problems with it since the sixth grade. I really have a problem with looking at my eyes and this complicates matter of hair grooming. As I am growing my hair long right now, it is supremely vital that I maintain a proper parting of the hair as it grows out, espcecially now that it is in the "awkward" stage. If I want to shave, I use a little side mirror to gaze at a specific spot on my face. I feel absolutely freakish. I meed to learn how to look in the mirror, or I will be the most ugly longhair on the planet.

Anyone think I am the weirdest person on the planet? Is this at all related to Asperger's? Any suggestions on overcoming my arcane fear?

My aspie son has trouble looking at himself in the mirror. As for myslef, I have been avoiding mirrors since my early twenties, but not for the same reason as you. Ever since I can remember, I would often catch myself talking to myself in the the mirror. Most times I would not even realize I was doing it until I sort of *snapped to*. When I was young, It did not bother me much. I would just catch myself and think...geeze that's weird. When I got older, I caught myself doing it one day and thought...my God, I'm going to do this all my life. It seemed like such a crazy thing to do. It bothered me because most times I did not even notice I was doing it and could not remember what I was saying. It made me wonder who the crap I was talking to. It made me wonder what the crap they were saying back. I've been avoiding mirrors ever since. I have recently learned that some other aspies do this too. It still seems a bit nutty, but I feel better knowing I'm not the only one.

Looking in the mirror, seeing my own picture, especially the kind of live video you see in a mirror or webcam, is indeed a strange experience.

I dislike looking at myself in mirrors. I've been afraid of them since I was very young. I always though I might see something in the mirror that wasn't anywhere else. I also don't like looking at photos of myself or watching myself in a video. I always feel like I'm looking at a complete stranger.

No, I like reflections mirror, glass or whatever.

I look at myself in the mirror quite often.

I only do it when I have to as far as various personal hygiene things which is a few times a day. I mainly don't like to look in the mirror because I don't like the way I look.

I already know what I look like and I don't really look in the mirror very much because I am usually doing something else at the time like washing my hands or thinking about something.

I have no problem looking into the mirror when I'm alone in the bathroom with the door shut, but if I'm out shopping and pass one, I'll look away and walk a little faster. Don't know why, I just don't like seeing myself in a mirror in public

And like someone else said, sometimes I freak out a little thinking I might see something in the mirror that shouldn't be there I know it's silly and superstitious, that ghosts won't really come out of the mirrors in the dark...but it still freaks me out.

I do too. I watch the way I look in shop mirrors, the way I walk or stand. When I see myself, it does seem strange, cos I don't picture myself standing or walking like in the mirrors.

I don't like looking in the mirror for a very simple reason: I have an unattractive face, and I don't like being reminded of it.

I don't have a problem looking in the mirror for the most part. But there have been a few times when I look in the mirror and I get this weird feeling that I'm not even looking at me, it's almost like I'm outisde of my body looking at me. So when I feel like that might happen again, I avoid mirrors.
