I just can't stand this mispronunciation of "different" by NT people. Is it that hard to pronounce correctly?

I think the OP was joking, saying that people are mispronouncing "different." It simply comes out as ret*d.

I think he means that people call him retarted because he is different. when i was in high school people would do that to me too. They said that I look Down syndrome and that I act like one too...but they were just kidding around. someone even said for a joke that i have "ass-burgers".... he didnt even realize he was right! lol

ignorants fear and attack what they don't understand.
being mentally ret*d actually ranges from mild slowness in overall skills-some being barely noticible,to the classic stereotype of mental retardation [profoundly affected]-which is wrongly often believed to be the entire definition of the MR spectrum.

and with DS,dont know why this is used as insult as there is no way to 'act DS' -DS includes a lot of physical differences and can seriously affect health in some,DSers do not act any differently even if their condition affects how they do things, one of the people am live with is a DSer who is probably more high functioning than some WP users.
so point is,its a waste of time to use ds/autism/retardation as an insult for not understanding someone, the person doing the insulting seems like they have more of a problem for assuming it's something dirty, makes someone less human or is something to hide away-everyone has got weaknesses and differences in some way or other.

Well, don't all ASDs involve some form of retardation???

I know you could call me socially ret*d, and be right about it.
