(Edited, change in time for grand opening)

Friday Jaunary 9th at 6pm Pacific Time.

That would be 9pm Eastern Time Zone

7pm Mountain Standard Time

8pm Central Time

There will be trivia, music and lindens.

Wrong Planet's enviroment has had changes but is now the right enviroment and will stay the same.

There are also notecards with information and rules. Don't expect alot of bright colors. There is only one section that does have brighter colors for those who prefer that to hang out with a waterfall.

To sign up for second life (it's free) go to http://www.secondlife.com

When you are in second life, look at the bottom of your screen for the button that says search.

It will take you to this window.

Click on the tab that says places. Type in Wrong Planet and press enter or the search button to the right. Select teleport and you will now be in wrong planet.

I joined SL for a month or so in the Spring, but after several days visiting dramatic/cute/stylish scenery/environments got fed up with all the empty places and advertisments and group-member-gathering card-offering behaviour of the few people that were hanging out here and there.

But the thought of being there with a big bunch of WPers is quite amusing. So amusing that I was just thinking that I might join up again.

Then I remembered how I couldn't be bothered to customise my appearance, preferring the almost "zero-degree" style of the basic character/avatar I picked out of the six offered when you join, and am now wondering if maybe a lot of other AS will do the same, and there'll be a huge number of the same avatars at the Opening!

But the idea is intriguing. The perfect place for a WP party/convention/hangout. :D

Just look up/google Second Life, and the site explains things reasonably well. You will need a good graphics card, and memory though. I tried with our old computer and could hardly make my character move, but on Vista with NVidia and twice as much mem it works ok. Though I still didn't get the hang of speaking etc on it, at all, just walked, or flew, around, looking at stuff.

I think so. I seem to remember seeing a "minimal system requirements" list for Macs on same page as the list for pc's.

Yes, just checked; there is. And Linux too.

There are so many places with free clothing and avie customization like hair, skin, shape. The standard customization is limited.

You can type in freebies under search for places and find alot to look for.

I know, and I went along to a couple and tried stuff on, but none of it looked as good as the basic first one I had chosen on joining. I took it all off again! It was very odd, as if the "Second Life" look/illusion only "held" so long as I stuck with what I"d been given at the start/selected from tiny range.

But surprisingly well designed.

I actually thought that it looked almost personal next to all the supposedly individual customised looks of gorgeous bodies and sexy clothing and long hair etc, who looked like they had all copied each other, whereas at least the one I started off with, and kept, was "neutral"/zero degree, ( a male one too, because it looked androgynous unlike the female ones on offer at the start ).

After all the bad press Second Life has received,
I am a little creeped out by Second Life.

Did anyone watch that episode of CSI: New York
where Detective Taylor has to look for a suspect in SL?

I though that 2nd Life was where you paid real money to buy imaginary things...;)

Which bit of bad press? It looked pretty harmless to me.

You mean like when you pay for films and books and video games and art and music and theatre and dance performances and TV shows and ...

It is completely free to join now, ( and not just for the first month ), and can even earn imaginary money there too, if in derisory amounts. It only costs "real" money if you want to own a piece of "land"/site space.

A lot of people go to the same freebie places though. Check out http://fabfree.wordpress.com/.
