People at school reckon I'm interested in "depressing" stuff, like war, end of the world, that kinda thing. Can anyone relate to this?

Interestingly, the boys are always on about stuff like this, and it's considered normal, but cos I'm a girl I'm allegedly expected to live in some sort of mentalist Barbieland.

There was a thing in Drama a while back where we had to choose a news story to do a report about, and as this was groupwork of course I was doomed from the beginning (same old story for aspies, y'know?). Everyone else wanted to do it about Woolworths closing down, but I argued that that is such a non-story, and we should do it on the Mumbai attacks. I personally think people's lives are more important than a stupid toy store closing down. But I was told that this is drama class and people don't wanna hear a bunch of depressing stuff about hotels getting attacked by terrorists. So I guess I'm the only person who prefers to keep my head OUT of the sand.

Always been interested in WWII, mainly because my father served. But I guess that's OK for us ASpic guys. The Missus enjoys movies about the Holoucast. We're quite the pair.

I went to this one alternative school and it was right across from the Elementary School playground. And this ambulance pulled up with sirens and there was this guy laying on the ground. And since I'm stupid, I yell out, "Did someone die?!?!?!" because I suppose I always associate ambulances with death and such. I also read mystery books that sometimes have dark titles/covers. So this one kid in my class always referred to me as that kid who likes death and depression. =/

Vampires are one of my special interests, and I suppose that could be considered "dark". It always seems to surprise people that I'm into that sort of thing, because I'm a sweet and happy girl.

I've always been fascinated with destructive forces. I love severe storms, especially the ominous skies. I've also been obsessed with volcanic eruptions. I don't like the idea of people being hurt or killed but destructive forces can be beautiful sometimes. If you enjoy watching this you know what I mean.

I also tend to like "depressing" music like Radiohead (though I don't really see it as depressing for me, just deep/moody).

I've always had a huge fascination with the apocalypse...specifically the social and emotional chaos it creates. Mind you, I don't like the idea of people being hurt/killed, but it's a huge adrenaline rush.

I can totally relate to your situation in drama class...I love the sorts of news that people often interpet as disturbing. I was actually happy that 9/11 happened because it was excited me: it was an actual significant event as opposed to the normal crap that usually passes for news.

I remember a couple school issues that sound similar. We were supossed to draw rainbows in class YA! ME I drew a werewolf!! !! !! LOL! In 3rd grade sometimes you'd be able to choose your own spelling words mine were vampire and dark stuff like that. I also wrote 2 research papers in College about killers it was fun. :-) I also laughed on 9/11 and am not afraid to admit it. :-) YA!

I can. When the doctors asked me if I 'worried' about things I told them:
Comets hitting the earth and the Sun going dimmer for starters.
I think they expected to hear:
I can't pay the rent on time

I can become interested in Depressing stuff too. Right now, I am wondering what causes people to turn crazy or what become psychotic or develop sad psychological disorders. I have somewhat been that way.

I can related. Sometimes I even 'enjoy' being depressed. It's comforting even. Radiohead and The Cure works for me. I listen more to blues guitar, it's more light-hearted fun.

'Common People' by the Pulp gets to me too, but who are the common people, NT or AS? I love the Pulp.

While I usually hate being sad, there are times when it feels good to be sad and I wallow in it.

I sometimes wonder whether that 'good' type of sadness is even the same emotion as the real down-in-the-dumps sadness where you can't feel much of anything but hurt/pain. I mean I listen to Radiohead and the music itself has a very gloomy feel to it, but somehow it's still very stirring emotionally, in a positive way. It's not anything like the painful flatness of depression.

Yeah, I do in periods, from I was a kid. I have read much in the Bible, mainly Ezekiel and the revelation. Much good depressing stuff there.

Yeah, pretty much - in fiction, I've always liked the most sad, screwed up characters who just needed a hug. In general, I've just liked dark stories - not always ones that end sadly, but usually ones that have plenty of screwed up crap going down in them.

I also interest and follow stories on abuse of kids and the disabled (like at the JRC), though at least I can justify that, as I'm going to law school to become an advocate to stop things like that from happening.
