I don't see anything wrong with writing a fictional story, even if they're based somewhat on your own observations. Just as long as you're writing, right? No? Eh.
As for ideas? Well if you want it to be a mix of reality and imagination, why don't you also make it "blurred" for the reader to? I know, it's been done before.
For example, A Beautiful Mind. But hell, lots of things have been done before ^.^
You'd definitely have to give more background information on your characters, setting, etc.
You could turn it into a children's book. That can be creative.
