well I went to the Drake Institute.
it's this neurofeedback place. been around since ;80 or '81 and I think well-known. I'll probably do neurofeedback, not sure if I'll do it there. got a brain map there before this. I didnt exhibit the AS traits under the letter B in the dsm-iv.
special interests-I had some intense interests lately not sure if I'd consider them special and I don't think my life has been characterized by special interests. repetitive motor mannerisms my mom mentioned hand-wringing but I mentioned I do it when my hands are cold. sometimes I pace. is that one? i'm iffy on if it's enough to count. let's see leg shaking perhaps. perhaps some stress-related stuff. god, I wish I could've had a really thorough eval. the other 2 criteria under B probably don't apply. In the interview we discussed my developmental history. I was enrolled in speech, occupational, and physical therapy at a young age. I believe I reached language milestones early enough to be still within the bounds for aspergers, however the amt I spoke in my early years wasn't up to par.

about a 2 hr clinical interview with a family therapist who specializes in Autism Spectrum disorders. did a neurofeedback session for half hr.
looked at one of those star screen savers. I had to maintain my attention level above a certain level and my stress level below a certain level. I did well.
i was there from about 2:45-7 for the 3:00 appt. did the neurofeedback first. did the interview around 4-6:30 and stuck around to get some extra ppwk.
about a 2 hr clinical interview with a family therapist who specializes in Autism Spectrum disorders. perhaps when I was in neurofedback she was looking at some of the questionnaires I filled out such as the Gilberg's autism and asperger's disorder scale. I brought some old ppwk such as my old psych eval and a psychoeducational assessment or something like that I had in '07. my mother came along.

anyway the therapist came to the conclusion that I have PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified) which is code 299.80 in the DSM-IV and AD(H)D the inattentive type code 314.00 in the DSM-IV

http://www.psychnet-uk.com/dsm_iv/_misc ... tables.htm

one of the other therapists I think she's a neuropsych thought I have NLD as well which is quite similar/the same as AS. this is due in part to the high discrepancy between my verbal and performance IQ.

the nld wasn't mentioned on the diagnostic report that I rec'd in the mail today, probably cause it isn't a dsm-iv diagnosis yet. perhaps when the next version of the dsm comes out in 2012, it will be on there.

because I didn't fit the criteria for B that is why I received a dx for PDD-NOS; I did mention PDD-NOS. wonder if it would've been on the rpt if I hadn't mentioned it. it seems NLD is essentially A without B. or at the very least B isn't necessary. and a few more things. I didn't receive any comments to the severity of my symptoms. my guess is mild. I remember suggesting the same thing to the neuropsych I spoke with at the drak eorientation , said she agreed, but that was just the orientation. anyway this my dx is the conclusion based on the interview, the ppwk I filled out and old evaluations etc, and my brain map.
besides the neurofeedback, cognitive behavioral therapy was also suggested. anyway I don't really know if I need anymore diagnostic sessions, just to make sure I really don't have Asperger's. there's always Developmental Coordination Disorder perhaps. that's in the future though.

ok I'll repost my 1st post taking out some stuff to make it shorter. Can always read the first post for more detail.

went to the Drake Institute which is known for neurofeedback has been doing it for a while.

about a 2 hr clinical interview with a family therapist who specializes in Autism Spectrum disorders. did a neurofeedback session for half hr.

she also commented that another therapist the neurospych I think said looks like I have NLD in part because of the large cap between viq and piq.
I also got a brain map previously at this place.

vivinator,
that is good,finally a diagnosis.
if are in need of some sort of support,it's probably better have the PDDNOS diagnosis because PDDNOSers can be very severe, right up to very mild,it forces specialists etc to look at the individual and how they are affected unlike with autism and as,which both have very obvious stereotypes attached thus lead to quick judgement of auties and aspies [examples-'people with autism have severe mental retardation so if do not have s/MR,cannot have autism',and 'people with AS are too intelligent and mild to need support'].

Congrats you're now in the same boat with the rest of us only PDDNOS is harder to type for some reason.

thanks for the reply guys. I hope the dx comes in handy for employment if I ever need it. I like pdd nos kind of. I feel I am pretty mild. I like it because I don't feel like I fit into the nld stereotype, or even if I would definitely qualify for a dx. not sure about add either. I don't know if there's any point to a neuropsych eval(which I didn't have for this). I think that's more comprehensive plus that's req'd for an NLD assessment.

so does anyone think there would be a point to getting a neuropsych eval, if only for the sake of curiosity? NLD requires a neuropsych eval for diagnosis.

Congratulations. I think I would get a similar diagnosis if I went to a psych.

thanks. and a neuropsych eval not just for nld, but for anything else. a 2nd opinion is 1 thing. also the report would be more detailed and there would be lots of actual testing involved rather tahn relying on my and my mother's answer's to questions and a brain map and previous ppwk.

How much did it cost?

(I am sure there is not a place like this in my town though)

well this particular place just has locations in southern cal. are you interested in the brain mapping stuf? I put some links in the NLD sticky. can paste them here too if you want. the brain map was $875. this was I tthink, $925 with I believe a 10% discount since my sistert who co ntacted them is a physician. not sure if the brain map was req'd for the eval but don't think so. I was told the evaluation is usualy reserved for people who want to go forward with the neurofeedback. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it at this place but the doctor waived on it so I did the eval.
