Attwood Speaks - Monster Ad Slammed

Top autism researcher slams Action For Children's dan advert

Tony Attwood, one of the world's leading autism researchers has this morning condemned Action For Children's Monster Dan TV adverts. Speaking from his clinic in Queensland, the respected commentator said:

"I am very concerned that the advert gives a message that children with autism and Asperger's syndrome are dangerous and potentially disturbed.

Dr Attwood has been drawn into the worldwide furore sparked by the release of Action For Children's second in a series of TV advertisements....

I didn't see a problem with the ad at all. Guess that's why he writes about Autism and I make quilts. :)

Further down on the page there is discussion about aborting 'autistic' babies. That there is just ANOTHER of those slippery slopes that the *abortion is a choice* crowd have CREATED for humanity. The *choice* people paved the way for quality engineering of newborns......because really the question is clear.....*choose perfect*, which leads to *create perfect*....that's the only choice. And don't ask what perfect is.....we have the mass media to inform us about that.

WOOO go Tony! Tony Attwood for President... unfortunatey that would never happen seeing as he's not native US. But I think he has the good sense for the job. He, at least, can see straight through these mindf**ks.

heard part of a story from him on NPR; they were discussing showing AS kids videos of facial expressions or something of that nature to train them to distinguish.

It's all very good, research that needs to be done, but sometimes I swear that there's a protocol that they stop studying AS once your subjects get pubic hair...;)

The "Autism Industry" is beginning to show signs of maturity and there now seems to be a well establish career route for celebrity therapists/lecturers.

Tony Attwood continues to live in a very large riverside house in one of Australia's better neighborhoods when not plying the autism lecture circuit with his 'Ministry of Funny Walks' and 'How to Get the Best Out of Your Pet Aspie' stand-up routines.

well of course...one must indeed adhere to the new architecture style of cardboardcboxism along the brisbane river, particularly if you are an Asperger's Syndrome specialist. It is completely and utterly unconscionable and unethical to dare to make money whilst actually contributing to the autism debate. we must all maintain a stark regimen of martyrdom, self-effacement and complete altruism if we are to have any value or any worthwhile input. Mixed motives are entirely out of the question and the only way an argument or particular viewpoint has any worth is if you are an anonymous contributor on an autism forum or stark raving poor. i mean, ownership of a Brisbane riverhouse MUST render your research and advocacy for Asperger's Syndrome completley worthless, musn't it??

Heaven forbid ----- i have to go --- time to go and burn down the river house.......

Everybody now, bring your family down to the riverside
Look to the east to see where the fat stock hide
Behind four walls of stone the rich man sleeps
Its time we put the flame torch to their keep

Burn down the mission
If were gonna stay alive
Watch the black smoke fly to heaven
See the red flame light the sky

Burn down the mission
Burn it down to stay alive
Its our only chance of living
Take all you need to live inside

Deep in the woods the squirrels are out today
My wife cried when they came to take me away
But what more could I do just to keep her warm
Than burn burn burn burn down the mission walls

well how apt.
i actually appreciate Bernie Taupin's lyric capacity and believe he penned some great tunes with John in the seventies.

As for the river house and its inhabitants...Given the issue with with sudden wind direction alterations in the subtropical region of QLD --- the fire just clipped the outside of the wooden queenslander homestead before swinging around to a westerly direction. The home and all its residents survived unharmed. just as well..... tony would be happy. his Beach Boys and Brian WIison collection thus remains unspoiled and unharmed.

Dr Attwood got to meet Brian Wilson and was so gratified to realize that his "In My Room" was indeed, an Aspie anthem. He described how Brian Wilson walks on stage, watching the floor right in front of his feet. He mentioned he was sure ol' Brian was on the spectrum.

I see no contradiction between the two Attwood articles.

If wp had the same quality control procedures as the New Repupublic - it wouldn't get as many "Sort it out mate or I'll call my lawyers" emails.

The additional comments;

This to me demonstrates a healthy cynacism. However, I don't feel its relevant to the the blokes views which seem to promote awareness and understanding of AS.

Maybe just tall poppy syndrome.

WHO KNOWS? Some guy is born to a very promiscuous girl on an island that became a state only about 2 years earlier via a coop that even some today might not think legitimate. It was a TRUE banana republic in EVERY sense of the word! HECK, in 1993 CLINTON apologized for the overthrow!! !! ! All the same, people question if he can truly be a citizen anyway. The guy hears about the US in a way that most Americans hear about camelot. He gets into politics through a back door by betraying a friend, and mentor, and, though later accused of the same thing he accused his mentor of, it is mostly overlooked. Though he has all those marks against him, and is even black when a lot of people figure Americans would never vote for a black, he WON. UNREAL!

Maybe Tony Atwood still has a chance! MAYBE we should have Arnold Schwartzenegger run! After all, HE always dreamed of coming to the US and doing what he did, etc.... WHO KNOWS! MAYBE he stepped onto an American airforce base, or embassy, or maybe even was born there. Maybe some distant relative is American. HEY, "the demolition man" ALREADY says he was elected president!
