I was searching through youtube and I found a video posted by an autistic woman about sensory overload, I wanted to put this here because it has a clip showing what they're like.
And that little clip scared the s**t out of me it's really trippy

yes. i have seen it before . didn;t kittenmeow do that on youtube? bloody fatastic stuff she puts on youtube.
i can relate. I have AS and it operates a bit differentlyfor me. when i go into ovrload i literally see white shards and flying fragments in my brain. it is very visual and very scary. it relaly is like a crash and a brain freeze and everything is jarring and fractured and very scary. i get these most days at some point - usually wehn someone tries to talk with me while i am doing something.
it is very similar to the visuals in the clip but not exaclty the same - i don;t have any rubbery undulations - just straight into my jagged little overload world.
since my son has gotten to social communication age - unfortunately these overloads ahev increased as there is now three people in the household and this absolutley complicates my life and my ability to stay calm and cope.
it's bad at present too, because i am under a lot of stress, so as Callista was saying in another thread - the sensory overloads can increse when baseline stress is up.
welcome to my delgihtful little world. i am sure some of you will relate.
and others who post here won;t have a frigging clue.......
may i ask why it scares you Monkey? it is a very real part of living with AS. yes it is scary but isn't it how you live too if you have AS? maybe yo udo not have sensory integration dysfunction...

I don't know why it was scary it just was really weird watching it, even though sensory overloads aren't really one of my prominent traits.

I thought it was quite good because I have been struggling to explain to people what it is like to have an overload. It creeped me out a little bit too, just weird I think. ![]()

i have seen this one as well.
the topic caught my attention and also happens to relate to a concern that i am currently having.
over time, i have learned to avoid certain situations. i couldn't honestly say that my experience with sensory overload could be described acurately by that video. i don't believe that my levels of sensativities cause for experience quite as severe as some that i've seen expressed. nonetheless, i have my issues.
i have never had the opportunity to see an O.T. but my psycological therapist wants that i try to attempt to expose myself to what situations i have learned to avoid throughout my life in expectation that they will become easier. in my experience with these situations my whole life, it is difficult to gauge whether ever they were easier at times of more frequent exposure; however, the result of the experiences as a whole has caused for me to learn to avoid them as a natural solution.
i am willing to try almost anything in the name of therapy but anyhow i wonder how much confidence i should have in her understanding and thought process. i am not looking to avoid what i have already agreed to. i will try now what she suggests and hope that the result of my experience will contribute to answering what i am now asking. what causes for me to wonder so much is that it seems that she expresses an idea that most everything works in this pattern. that more experience with something makes it easier. i believe that there are some things that don't work this way.
