Hi,

I'm a starter here and not even sure yet that I really got AS. I notice there's a quite some talk about NT which I do not know. Just in order to understand the discussions can anyone briefly explain what the abbreviation NT means and what NT is in contrast to AS?

Thanks,

Marco

AS = Asperger Syndrome

NT = Neuro Typical or "normal" non-autistic person

not that there is such a thing as normal, really

That's a clear explanation, thanks! And I definitely agree with your last comment.

My initial thought when reading the discussions was that NT was another form of autism, so I clearly misunderstood.

I keep hearing NT is a none autistic spectrum person and then I have heard it's people who don't have any neurological conditions.

Actually NT may just be another form of autism as nobody really understands what 'normal' or even 'typical' really means. In reality it is a pretty good bet that all humans are on a tremendously long spectrum of mind that stretches to infinity.

NT is a form of insanity. Unfortunately, it is the most common form.

It causes people to blindly follow without question, follow absurd fashion trends, go witch hunting, it allows wars, genocide, global warming...
The last round of out-of-control NT-ism broke the world. (Bush)

hhhmmmm....describe "sane"

And there may have been some autistic people that voted for Bush.

u really can't blame everything on "the NT's", lots of 'em are good, not-ignorant people (luckily) :D

There is no such thing as normal because everyone has problems and we all have something. That's what doctors say. I don't know if there is one person out there who doesn't have anything wrong with them. "Normal" is just over rated. People focus too much on that word and decide they aren't normal or someone else isn't normal or that other person is odd or weird, etc. because they are picking bones in them about their behavior or how they function. I say everyone is normal. NT is just a word, it doesn't define anyone.

So if anyone says you're normal. Take that as a compliment because it means they don't focus on that word and they don't care how someone acts and they like you for you. It doesn't mean they are denying your problems. That is not what I'm doing when I say someone is normal. That is not what my mother does when she says the same or my doctors.

NT is not the opposite to autistic.
It refers to those who have typical neurological functioning, people who's brains are set up a different way,
such as autistics, and also schizophrenics, bipolars,ADHDers etc are also not NT.

It's all realtive to where each of us are on the infinite spectrum. Some people here are light years ahead of me and some are light years behind me and some are just lost in the vast vacuum of nothingless space since they are pretty much to stupid to realize that they have a mind to begin with. every now and then in cosmic time some of us converge in a rapid passing and exchange pleaseantries with each other and I'm waiting until the aspie chicks come shooting by.

That about sums it up for me, apart from the bit about the aspie chicks that is!

Nothingless! What a great word! Does it mean "lacking or devoid of nothing"? Does that mean it contains everything? And does it imply that that everything, through some obscure deconstructionist exercise, is effectively nothing?

What a great word.

my family have decided that 'normal' is anyone who can function in society, however badly.

I don't care that it was an accident. I love this word. I'm not even sure what it means yet. Anyway, can I use it?

Edit -- I hit reply too soon. "Ixtli" beat me to it. It's still a great word.

Interesting idea - perhaps NT is just the most common form of autism ...
