these crickets are driving me INSANE.
every single night. this is IMPOSSIBLE.
for some reason the patch outside my window now harbours crickets. maybe it is because there are weeds there now that were not there before. they are driving me insane.
i wear wax earplugs during my waking hours until i go to sleep, but apparently it's bad to wear those at night because they will melt inside your ears and break off and stay there even after you pull most of it out (and that's not really something i particularly enjoy the thought of). the stiff earplugs with flanges and a solid core (musicians earplugs) are good but change the cartilage of your ears and also are irritating to your ears when you wake up. (and get lost in the bed.) foam? haven't tried that maybe it's an option, but i don't recall i liked them very much. difficult to manoeuvre. silicon? hard and uncomfortable while you sleep, AND they fall out.
what else to do? earmuffs? all i can find are industrial ones that don't look like they'd be very comfortable... the kind people wear while lawnmowing and suchlike...
what other things can you do to block out noise at night? (let's assume alarm clocks are not necessary, as i'm a fairly light sleeper anyway.) and what therapy do people do for sound hypersensitivity?

Pull the weeds, stomp the ground, crush the crickets, and spray the area down with insecticide. (Keep your window closed if you use that last option.)
I'm the same way. I sleep in the basement and the window well going into my bedroom collects crickets. I can't stand them! I did all of the above.
Don't they keep you company?
It's strange how what bothers one, is music to another.
I wear the foam squishy ones when brush cutting, chain sawing and shooting; O, and I also wore them in the mental hostel because everyone their snored loudly. They aren't that comfortable, but it helped with the snoring, and it's needed for the other things. O, and the cylinder shaped ones, not the cone shaped ones, the latter are better for reducing noise as they go in further, but they're uncomfortable after awhile (well, more so).
They'll probably make your ears feel uncomfortable when you wake up, but that's the price. I suppose you could cut up the cylinder shaped ones so that they block the crickets, but they don't expand too much.

I try to change the way I think about the sounds of nature. I have bird outside my window that chirps a weird tune. I get use to it.
My remember my brother telling me a bout a toad living in the space under that house and making an annoying noise every night.
I don't think you will be able to block all annoying sounds, just have to get use to some.
Having said that, I have a hard time living in apartments because of sounds of loud music, dogs barking, and babies crying.
The last place I lived, there were crickets IN MY HOUSE and I was afraid to kill them because my dad said they were a Japanese symbol for good luck. Eventually, I had to call the mgmt of the apt for an exterminator.
Now, I live in a very quiet, insect free apartment ![]()
