My special interest / obsession is planning trips. Therefore, my mecca is an international tourism fair (literally loads of brochures to take home). I'm thinking of buying a plane ticket to Berlin next month (biggest tourism fair in the world). I'm thinking maybe I'm too obsessed...

Well, once I thought about shelling out a hundred bucks for a volume of the Hellsing manga signed by its author, Kohta Hirano. But I decided not to invest in it in case it was a fake.

You can never get too obsessed! ;) ...

Of cause, you are limited by other factors, such as money.
And you might also think about if you can really handle a such trip. I'm saying this because I'm not sure if I could.
So... Do a pro/cons-list and see if everything seems fine, if it does: GO!, if it doesn't: Try finding alternatives...

I'm under 18 and still living off my parents, but I don't think they're too happy with where their money's going sometimes...
I have the large and small Dr. Who callanders for 2009, I have 3 Dr. Who t-shirts, a sonic screwdriver, a lazer screwdriver, a torch in the shape of a sonic screwdriver, psychic paper, a 4' inflatable Dalek, a 4' inflatable TARDIS, posters lining my walls... I don't have time to list any more.
Yeah... >.>

As long as you are using from you own money supply, or at least using them with some respect... Then I don't see a problem at all..

Oh my. The extremes I've gone through and will go through for my special interests are not typeable! We'll just leave it at "beyond extreme" ...

how far would i go?

as far as is necessary excepting murder.
i have begged, borrowed, thieved, disrespected, abused, hurt and obsessed to the point of insanity. and really not been very aware that i was doing so, until later when it was explained to me.

i have dudded out as a mum because of my special interest (the most recent discussions with my ex about custody if we ever move out from under the same roof have led me to the stark reality i cannot look after my son on my own...he will not get fed adequately because of my special interest and my executive dysfunction if left to my own devices without someone helping me to look after him. my ex is a good man. He is pretty level headed and it is true wehn he reviews our situation honestly and states my special interests take precedence over my son. that is a hard one to cop, as a woman with AS.
Rocking has started - time to change subject.......)

My primary special interest is everything to me and i am always thinking about it, contemplating it or doing it. it is always there like a primary brain that exists on its own in my head. i do actually believe some of us have multiple brains -- or access parts of the brain NT people are not able to access.

When your obsession has caused damage to your body, you have gone to far. I damaged my lungs thanks to one of mine.

I spent over $1000 on writing classes in the 1990's.

There are no limits until you run out of money or get seriously injured and even then the injury is usually only a temporary setback. Most people gasp when they get an idea of how much money I've spent on 'projects' over my lifetime and the close calls I've had as a result.

Well I once bought a $2000 lens. Fortunately my latest special interest (collecting Ben 10 figures that come free with jelly beans) does not cost that much. I really want to own the whole set though. I've only got 4 out of 18. If I was younger I would be half way there by now. I remember I got well obsessed when I collected Tazo's - 5 packets of chips for lunch and I used to give people 20 cents for their Tazo's or sell my chip packets once I collected the Tazo. And it's 12 years later and I still have my Tazo collection.
I'm going to about three concerts in a couple of weeks. One is free but if it wasn't all up I'd be spending $240.

yes, i can spend thousands and thousands in one order. i wear the same clothes all the time and am not materialistic and i live very frugally but i spend THOUSANDS on my special interest. when i sell a painting i jsut spend a heap of the money on mre materials. I just got some work acquired by a public collection and i will spend all the money on materials and a bit on the mortgage.

and i live like a pauper with a bomb car etc.

I've considered jumping into the meerkat enclosure at the Memphis zoo. But I would probably be escorted to jail a mental hospital before the meerkats warmed up to me. But at least I considered it. If I knew I would not be arrested, I would have done it for sure. It would have been easy too and I probably would only have a few scrapes and a sore butt. The exhibit looked fairly easy to enter if a person was determined enough. Why does everyone think meerkats are so dangerous? Sure they can bite but could they really maul someone like a lion or tiger? I don’t think the meerkats would bite me in the first place. They would probably run away at first but eventually curiosity would get the better of them. NT’s think my meerkat obsession is unhealthy for me anyway, might as well give them a reason too.

you only live once. if i were you i'd do it.
get in there and lie with them. scratch around in the little mounds and holes and have fun
