Am I one of the only people who rinses what i've just washed in soap? The last like 5 people i've seen wash up, they just take a pan or something straight out the bowl, it'll be covered in soapy water, then they just dry it. I actually said to a support person the other day, before they could do it, "you want me to rinse that?". Surely if the object isn't rinsed, we're eating soap? 8O

I rinse obsessively. I don't know if it actually matters.. eg will eating soap actually hurt you.. but I just cannot personally stand the idea. If it's going to be clean it needs to be CLEAN and that includes clean from soap!! ! :x

My husband does something similar.. when doing laundry he will put the cap back on the bottle without rinsing it out so there's degergent dripping down the bottle. When I challenged him on this he was like "Why does it matter, it's just soap! It's clean." and I'm like "But.. it's getting everywhere >.> <.<"

In my experience, what you've been seeing is very unusual. Everyone I've ever seen do dishes rinses them, every washing machine, whether for dishes or for clothes, has a rinse cycle, sometimes more than one. Soap facilitates cleaning, but then you rinse it away.

You might ask these people whether they do the same when washing themselves. Well, maybe you'd better not, unless you know them really well. It really makes you wonder, though.

That's a very odd thing you've come across. It's usually us that are the different ones.

I had a friend back in elementary school who's chore was to wash the dishes. Every time I would get a drink over there it would be tinged with the lovely taste of soap.

It was nasty, I've noticed that you can taste it more on plastic dishes. After that though, she was the only one I knew to do that, and I just figured that she just didn't feel like washing the dishes and never really cared.

I rinse, I remember that taste well. ick...

Lol, I probably won't ask these people if they rinse themselves :P

I always rinse before drying.

I hate when soap taints the taste of whatever I am eating or drinking, and it is more noticable when I am drinking something... I hate it I hate I hate it.... It MUST be rinsed, or it will drive me nuts.

I've never seen anyone do that, thankfully. I always rinse.

On a totally on related note, I used to be phobic of touching dirty dishes (a therefore washing-up) until a few years ago, until I forced my self into touching them. DIY Cognitive behavioral therapy.

Soap is like exercise! You DON'T exercise to build muscle! You exercise to impact the muscle, so it will grow while you are RESTING. Likewise, soap isn't to clean. It is to basically break down the dirt so it can be cleaned when you RINSE! HECK, soap is made from basically fat and lye, and NOT what you want to have on plates. It DOES help to eat through things like oil though.

Most soaps aren'ta soap anymore, and are actually more of a detergent. Laundry and dish soap inclusive.

You're right. I got carried away, and WAS talking about old fasioned bar soap. Oh well, some other soaps are WORSE! The stuff is NOT made to be ingested. At least 4 times, I had a drink that was CLEARLY in a glass with soap in it. I thought it was a STUPID MISTAKE, but you guys are saying it was likely on purpose!

i'm really suprised you are all rinsers 8O

we always use washing up liquid to wash the dishes and you don't need to rinse it off - it isn't poisonous

if there's LOADS of washing-up bubbles on a plate or something then i'll rinse some of them off but that's only because they'll wet the tea towel too much if i don't! I'm OCD too.

i wouldn't recommend drinking a cupful of washing up liquid, but it doesn't hurt you not to rinse dishes, i should know :D

...and by the way, yes i do rinse showergel off myself when i have a shower!!

That makes me want to do something violent to your dishes. Lol sorry  I won't though. It's just a little paranoia/OCD thing that I have. Must... rinse....

Not rinsing dishes in hot water after washing is like getting out of a bathtub without taking a shower afterwards to get clean. It just isn't something that should be done by civilized people.
