Hi aspiescan,
I was diagnosed last year (at 38) by my therapist, who I was seeing due to problems in my marriage. It turns out the therapist is a specialist in ASD with children as well, so she was pretty well tuned into my symptoms. She "suggested" the diagnosis at one session. I went home and, in typical Aspie fashion, read everything I could find on Autism and Asperger's. Everything pretty much described me, and it was a strange experience to recognize that in myself.
It was pretty difficult to get my mother to accept the diagnosis. I think it was a combination of old ideas about autism, and not wanting to admit that her son was "broken". My sister was great.
Cheers!
