What is stress, and how do people recognise it?

A social worker once corrected me because she asked me if I suffer from stress. I said no, but she said that actually I am very stressed. So I asked about it. The response wasn't very clear, given that it was that stress affects different people in different ways. What ways?

I can relax, I don't get frequent headaches, I am rarely off my food...

I just don't see that stress affects me, but it seems that I'm the only one who thinks that. What is it that I'm supposed to feel in order to know it is stress?

I'm not a worrier (nor a warrior :D). In fact some say I'm so laid back I'm horizontal. I guess I must have the wrong idea about what stress actually is. Help??

((((hugs))))

People handle life's difficulties and challenges in different ways. Many people become emotional and anxious over the smallest challenge that come
their way. Others, like yourself, take things in stride and let things roll off their backs. In fact, more people should be like you. Life is short and at times, it is best not to sweat the "small stuff." In reality, it is all "small stuff."

Most of life's difficulties and "problems" can be solved. The hard part is knowing where to look for the solutions...and in a state of anxiety and stress,
the solutions seem hidden from us.

You apparently have learned good coping skills in dealing with life's difficulties and challenges. I commend you!

Stress is defined as not having enough resources to cope with given situations.

With AS, we don't. It's because we get overloaded with stimulaion through the day. We are always under some form of stress. That's why I take meds to reduce my anxiety level.

UCTV has some clips on the matter what stress is about. Look here: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=uct ... ery=stress

(I haven't looked at them myself)

You also have this on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stress

Eating healthy and not to move the body from time to time is supposed to increase one's stress tolerance from what I have understood.

Hope you find the links of interest.
