bugs(grain wevils) in cereal. eeeewww!! ! They say that if you cereal long enough(past the experation date) that the eggs in the cereal will hatch, and you will have live bugs crawling around in it(even if the package is still sealed. Last week, I was eating a bowl of cheesy grits(from an individulal serving packages), and I then noticed, half way through, that there was a dead grain bug in it. :eew: I thought I was going to puke. I felt sooo ill afterwards, just thinkiing of how many of these that i had already, probably ate. I went through my pantry and threw away all expired cereals. I figured that what wasn't expired should be fine. Well.... I have an unexpired box of malt-o-meal, and it isn't due to expire for another year, and there were dead bugs(grain bugs) in it when it was first opened today.

That's normal - humans survived this contaminations since centuries well. There is nor real way to avoid such contaminations, because where you have gains you also have animals how eat grain.

---

BTW: The more "natural" grain products are the easier will be subject to insects infestations. Whole grain flour can't be stored longer than some weeks, whilst white flour can be stored nearly indefinitely.

As I said: This is perfectly normal. Food comes from fields and fields contain insects of all kind. No reason to be worry.

I found a peice of cardboard or wood in my browine today at Border's. The appologized, gave me my money back and a free brownie. They said they might even have to recall them. Bugs are almost always in the power Pippin's crickets eat. Why is this in the general autism dicussion BTW?

WOW, TWO recalled brownies for the price of one! They must be RICH!

When I was about 4 or 5, I opened a box of sun maid raisins, and there were bugs ALL OVER! What a sight! Once, when I was about 13 or 14, I opened a large herseys bar, and there were pupa in it. I should have sued or something. They TRIED to make me believe that it happened at the store, though it clearly hadn't.

In such discussions it always nice to remember the Donoghue v Stevenson trail of 1931 in whom the Law Lords in London had to decide regarding the legal consequences of a rotten snail found in a bottle of ginger ale:

Is is hard enough to find food that I will eat, due to sensory issues, but then to find one of my favorite foods(love the texture and taste of the cereal)and there is a bug in it. grrr.

I had an incident when I was much younger where I was eating a pear and I find it was infested with bugs... Fortunatly I didn't eat the bugs, and I didn't eat pears for years since. It was only about 3 years ago I slowly started eating pears again, and I am really picky with my fruit to begin with, as it must have a certain firmness particular to the fruit, and pears must be soft and sweet.

I grow up at the country side and I am more than just certain that I eat more than just one worm - I am still alive.

This totally reminds me of "The Simpsons." Marge gives Homer oatmeal because she wants him to eat healthy food. Homer lies and says there's a bug in it and throws it away. He then eats junk food for breakfast, Bart says there's a bug in that (there is) and Homer says "oh well" and still eats it.

i like the bugs, it adds to the crunch, especially since the cereals have gone a bit soggy by then

it's only protein. I wouldn't worry about it.

talking about real gross stuff- I once found a real fingernail in my cereal. after seeing that, a little cockroach in my morning crunch just makes me add a bit more milk.
